I thought that it would be funny to sign up for the expert chess 39th GK tournament. Just to see what its like to play a high rated player, since they are too scared to play lower rated players on a normal day. so this was my way to get around that. I have yet to have such a fun and fast game like this since. I only won one game in the whole tournament for experts. I hope you like it.

1. e4	Standard opening, i was expecting something different but hey just playin chess.



1... e5	I have played a couple 1600 players and they always seem to advance their pawns on me so I have to stop him from doing that, pretty normal.



2. Bc4	Just what I had expected, the old queen bishop mate. Kind of an insult but i'm still cautious.

I think a true queen-bishop mate position would involve the queen on somewhere like f3 or h5. toiletduck1 (1200) on 15-May-08: Yes, Bishops opening is pretty standard, no insult.


2... Bc5	I wanted to start the pressure on his weak pawn.

3. Nc3 Nf6	I wanted to attack his queen with my bishop soon, so just getting ready for that.



4. d3 d6	g4 is looking good a bishop attack seemed obvious so i wanted to change it up a bit.



5. f4	i'm already hating his pawns, but i just wanted to work around them.
	2 comments jfxleigh (1681) on 23-Jan-08: I think 5. f4? is technically a poor move; but psychologically, it may be well calculated. Your opponent is going to try to shake you up with some quickfire unexpected moves, and rely on his/her greater skill/experience to clean up any mess. Whenever I play people rated well ahead of me, this is what happens, anyway. Maybe they sense I'm a wuss! archduke_piccolo (2334) on 24-Jan-08: Maybe White didn't expect the weakening of the dark squares on his K-side would have such drastic consequences. But the thing shouldn't really lose. The game has transposed into a sort of King's Gambit Declined/Vienna Gambit Declined hybrid. It is true, though, that Black gets an immediate attack.


5... Ng4	Here I was going to attack his queens bishop if he takes my bishop then I take with my knight and attack his queen. pretty strait forward.



6. Nh3	Here he gave me his knight. i want to check him with my queen, if he blocks with g pawn then i take knight.

E.g. 6.fxe5 Nf2 7.Qh5 with all sorts of mayhem! jfxleigh (1681) on 24-Jan-08: 6. Nh3?? - I think 6.fxe5 Bxg1 7.Rxg1 leaves a playable position for white - in fact, would be the only point of 5. f4... Edited to add: fourknightsgame, 6...Nf2 isn't a problem for white: 7. Qh5 (threatening mate at f7), 7...0-0 8. Rf1, leaves a better outcome for white than the stranded knight on h3... fourknightsgame (1200) on 24-Jan-08: What about 6.fxe5 Nf2 Edit : I was referring to the line 6.fxe5 Nf2 Qh5 not 6. Nh3 Nf2 as the rook cannot go to f1 or g1 in the fxe5 line.


6... Qh4+	hoping to take a free knight.



7. Kd2	No give, so this is my favorite part of the game. I knew that if I could get his feisty knight out of the way then I have mate shortly. So i thought that i'd offer my knight for free because i'm only a "1220" player

7... Nf2	I had to wait two days to see if he takes or not......
	2 comments archduke_piccolo (2334) on 24-Jan-08: I think 7...Nf2 is the money move (though 7...Ne3 should give Black an edge). Suppose White were to try 8.Qe1, pinning the knight against the BQ. Then Black carries on his attack: 8.Qe1 Bxh3 9.gxh3 exf4 ... Now 10.Rf1 gets axed by 10...Be3+ 11.Ke2 Qh5#. The alternate rook move isn't much chop either: 10...Be3+ 11.Ke2 Qh5+ 12.Kf1 Qxh3+ 13.Ke2 (13.Rg2? f3!) 13...Qh5+ 14.Kf1 Ng4. *** After some consideration, it seems that after 7...Nf2 8.Qe1 Bxh3 9.gxh3 Qxh3 is better than 9...exf4. After 9...Qxh3 10.Rf1 Ng4 11.Nd5 Nxh2 12.Rh1 Qg2+ Black gets an enduring attack. After my earlier suggested 9...exf4 White can stay in the game with 10.Nd5!? (turning the thing into a real Wild West game) or 10.Nd1!? (attempting to blunt the edge of Black's attack). At any rate, there was no reason yet for White to panic. Black has an attack and the initiative, sure, but White still can cause trouble. jfxleigh (1681) on 24-Jan-08: It's a good trap (and hey, it worked, so you were right!) but I wonder whether 7...Ne3 isn't a better percentage play? Continuing something like 7...Ne3 8.Qe1 Qg4 9. Qg3 exf4 Edited to add: actually, on reflection, I think that ionadowman (and alexchavez666) are right: Nf2 has better lines even if the trap is avoided. Ne3 is less aggressive, and will allow white some time (which he desperately needs!).


8. Nxf2	Oh baby!! I was going nuts at this point. Do you see it???

8... Qxf4+	POW! he resigned at this point. I hate it when i get a resignation when mate is only a move away. what a bitch but, whatever. e2 or e1 only legal move fatal when my black beauty takes his Knight. Upon resignation Decebals said that i played strong for my rating, I think that he didnt play strong enough for his. Only in this game, he killed me on the next one. Either way, I think that the moral of the story is, if your opponent underestimates you, make sure that he regrets it. I received 19.4 points with this win.

I've been on the wrong side of the same sort of experience... Mind you that was over-reliance on "the Book". Well played alexchavez666!
