It is a move you have to count on facing, though, whether you are essaying a Stonewall Attack or a Colle System (both playable lines). 4.c3 seems to me a good and thematic response.

I think this might have been one place at which you could let the piece land on g4, then kick it in the teeth with h3.

This risk one runs when avoiding confrontations in this way, as that one gets driven into a passive position. At the moment this game looks as though colours have been reversed, which argues that White has made some concessions already. Here 15.Qa4 or Qb3 would have come into consideration as more active postings for the WQ.

At least you didn't play 16.Qxd5?? Bh2ch. But it is quite hard to find any good move here. One possibility is the try 16.Qb3 in order to induce 16...c4, then back to 17.Qd1. White then have obtained for himself the d4-square, which would be something. Another idea is 16.Rf1, but that does have the look of a retreat. It is not clear that White has the strategic depth (i.e. enough space) to make such concessions safely.

Black could have done even better. 16...Nxf2!? is also pretty good, but how about this: 16...Qh4!! Look what would have happened; the threats Black already has are retained, and Black has thrown in some extra. The sequel might have been: 17.Rf1 Nxf2 18.Rxf2 Bxh2ch 19.Kf1 Bg3 20.Rf3 -(20.Rxf5)- 20...Bxh3. I find these sorts of attacks - close assaults with Queen and the Bishop pair - as exciting as any I've experienced: 21.Rxg3 ...-(21.gxh3 Qxh3ch and mate in 2)- 21...Qxg3 22.gxh3 ... -(22.Bf3 is relatively better, but still insufficient)- 22...Rd6! and it's pretty much all up for White.
