Yet for other readers, it would have been nice to see some comment on the events leading up to this point. The game has its points of interest throughout. But forgive if I'm being a bit previous here, and that this is a "work in progress".... jonellis (1769) on 24-Apr-13: Hm. What if White plays 64. Nc3 but Black does NOT reply with a5? If, for instance, he plays 64. ... Kc7 instead, then neither the white K or N has a better place to go than to return to 65. Nd5+ Kb7. (65. Nxb5 axb5 66. Kxb5 is met by 66. ...Kb7! and White cannot force the win.) White's winning move is: 64. Ne7! with the following variations: - 64. ... a5 65. bxa5 Ka6 66. Kb4 Ka7/b7 67. Kxb5 and wins - 64. ... Ka7/c7 (else 65. Kb6 wins) 65. Nc6! Kb7 (else 66. Kb6 wins) 66. Kd6!! and finally: -- 66. ... Kb6 67. Na5 Ka7 68. Kc6 Ka8 69. Kb6 and wins -- 66. ... Ka8 67. Kc7 a5 69 Nxa5 and wins -- 66. ... Kc8 67. Na5 Kb8 68. Kc6 Ka7 (else 69. Kb6) 69. Kc7 Ka8 70. Kb6.


64... a5	Black's powerful move here forces the loss of white's only pawn...



65. bxa5 Ka6	White cannot prevent the capture of his only pawn.



66. Nb4+ Kxa5 67. Kc5 Ka4 68. Nc6 b4 69. Nxb4	Though white has a 3 pawn advantage, he has insufficient force to achieve mate, so the game is drawn due to a dead position. See move #64 to see how white could have won this game! 20:20 hindsight doesn't help here, but perhaps this mistake will help me recognize it BEFORE telling my opponent on move 65 that 64.
