This is a recent game I played on my cheap, second hand chess computer. I decided to try something quite unusual on move 14, and I ended up with a win.

1. e4 e6	French defense, the computer had been playing French and Caro-kann.



2. d4 d5 3. e5	I decide to advance.



3... c5 4. c3 Nc6 5. Nf3 c4	What the hell is this?!
	1 comment cdeburca (1935) on 03-Dec-12: It's weak; defeats the whole point of the French for black. He needs to attack white's pawn chain to get any play, and this does nothing. Correct - at some stage - is to swap and try to attack d4.


6. b3	It seemed like a fine move at the time, and looking at the Gameknot DB, it wins 70%, loses 17%, and draws 11%, being played 17 times.



6... cxb3 7. axb3 Nh6	Planning to bring his knight to f5, putting pressure on the d4 pawn.



8. Bd3 Nf5 9. Bg5	Threatening the queen, another option is to simply castle.



9... Be7 10. Bxe7 Qxe7 11. Nbd2 O-O 12. O-O	Finally we've both castled.



12... a5	The centre is closed, so the computer is going to attack from the wing.



13. Qc2 Bd7 14. g4	G4. Was it a mistake, or a good move?
	1 comment cdeburca (1935) on 03-Dec-12: Well it wins a pawn straight away! I don't think black has any real play on the kingside, so the risk from opening your king up looks fairly low. And you can't attack in the centre, black's going to try counter on the queenside, so you have to attack on the kingside I think.


14... Nh4 15. Bxh7+	That's why I thought it was good.



15... Kh8 16. h3	Bad move.



16... g6	My bishop is trapped!



17. Nxh4 Qxh4 18. Bxg6 fxg6 19. Qxg6	Black's king side is destroyed, and soon mine will be too.



19... Qxh3 20. f4	! Black could play for a draw with Qg3+ continual check.

20... Qxc3	?? Loses.



21. Rf3	!! Wins. Threatening the queen and threatening Rh3#.



21... Qxa1+ 22. Kg2	There's nothing black can do to stop Rh3#



22... Nxd4 23. Rh3#	CHECKMATE! I love sacrificing pieces to win! Please comment and thanks for reading!
