Of course, some comments are neglectables... nuntar (1702) on 21-Jul-10: Well, there isn't much to say about the moves so far; they are well-known standard opening moves that can lead to any of the main line king's pawn openings.


3. Nc3	Heading for the four knights opening

	2 comments damalfi (1200) on 21-Jul-10: Not really... nuntar (1702) on 21-Jul-10: I think the annotator means Black "obliges" White by playing the Four Knights, as White's last seemed to indicate he wanted. I think this is a case of putting the cart before the horse, though. Black can avoid the Four Knights here, for instance by 3... Bb4, but it's usually considered that 3... Nf6 is Black's best move, so most Four Knights players would actually be quite happy if Black does play something else.


4. Nxe5	?! I have played this a few times myself actually in blitz games, and lost every single one

5... Ng6	?! Not sure what i should really be doing
	1 comment nuntar (1702) on 21-Jul-10: The right move. After 5... Nc6 White finds it easier to continue kicking the knights, e.g. 6. d5 Ne5 7. f4 Ng6 8. e5 Ng8 9. d6. Tim Krabbé, among others, points out that the pawn on d6 is very strong and getting it there is one of White's major goals in this opening.


6. e5	The knight has only one square..g8. Too passive, so instead...
	1 comment nuntar (1702) on 21-Jul-10: 6... Ng8 is normally played here. Black will take longer to develop, but White does not have enough compensation for the sacrificed piece.


6... Qe7	Pinning the pawn against the king



7. Bg5	At first glance this looks good for white, but i figure out a nice trick, and my opponent takes the bait.



7... Nxe5	!! Can you see the threat?

White now has no way to avoid Black inflicting doubled isolated pawns, since the normal Bd2 is illegal. In addition Black is a pawn up and ahead on development. Sure, it's better than what White played, but you have to fancy Black to win.


8. Bxf6	?? Losing the game instantly. [ 8. dxe5 Qxe5 9. Be3. ]

That is equivalent to Black deserving to carry out such a mate. How could it not be? last_archimedean (1564) on 23-Jul-10: Reminds me of the Chernev-Miller game I annotated. Very similar ending.
