It's just weak play, with f6 and g6. f6 is almost never a good move, and this position does nothing to alter that view.

F6 stops Nf6 a normal developing move, I think f5 is better.

why? Why not complete your development and push the k-side attack?

Setting up a bind might be the more effective approach...

This does make a nice place to develop your lsb.

what do you mean 'reduce the castle structure'? That is unfamiliar to me.

Weaken the K-side? Deplete the K-side? Both interpretations seem possible. In my view the text goes more to keeping Black's centre under constraint. I do wonder, though, whether retaking with the Queen on d6 might be Black's better option.

The castling structure by Black is solid and the lsb is looking right at the K.

Going to the rim is grim, but it does offer developing to c7.

Forcing the dark-square bishops off. Understandable: in the hope of drawing some of White's sting at least. I'm inclined to think, though, that White gets the better of the bargain, as Black's castled position is left considerably weakened.

This position is great for White. The dominating feature is that mass of pawns in the centre. His lead in development doesn't do White any harm, neither. A weakness is a weakness only insofar as it can be exploited. For the moment White has no weaknesses.

Now Black has exposed a couple of weaknesses in White's game: e3 and h2. They ought to be easily enough masked, though, by 22.e5.

23...Nxh2 after 24...g5 was better

24...exf5 25.Rxg4 fxg4 26.Rf7ch Qxf7 27.Bxf7 Rxe3 [28.Nc4!? Re1ch 29.Kf2 Re7 30.Nd6 with a winning position for White. 24,,,gxf4 25.Nc4 followed by Nd6 is not a huge improvement for Black.

Either pawn capture, opening up the f-file would have been as good for White. But White has a huge advantage now that he has a range of string moves available. That can be a difficulty, as it happens, causing one to mix ideas and lose the thread. But Black is playing in effect a rook down at least, as the chappy on a8 is doing absolutely diddly squat.

It had to be ...Kf8 or ...Kh8. Instead ...Kf7 left the King too exposed after 26.R1f3 Nd5 27.Rh4 Rh8 28.Nc4 with a tremendous attack right across the board. Black seems to have overlooked the fact that, having gone to h6, the King has no way back.

White had a forced mate in 5 here: 26.Rh4ch Kg5 27.Ne4ch! Kxh4 28.Qf2ch Kh5 29.Qf3ch Kh4 30.Qh3#.

It is 27...Nxf6 that makes the text move not White's best. In fact there was a very tasty King hunt here: 27.Rh3ch Kg5 28.Ne4ch!! Kxf4 29.Qf2ch!! Kxe4 30.Bc2#. Elegant and economical.
