Gedult Opening. Very weak, and (aside from required opening tournaments) usually only played in a show-offy "get away with anything" style game.

WHAT is that king doing? What is White thinking? This has to be the weakest opening I have ever seen...

Perhaps those commenting might like to rem this was a thematic opening. Also even if the moves look ludicrous to you please don't be rude. Constructive comments are welcomed.

Fair enough. Interesting experiment. A bad opening will, naturally, be somewhat rehabilitated by a cool name. This one has three. I particularly like the tongue-in-cheek "Hammerschlag".

I watched this kind of opening at more->chess openings. When I saw it, I'm sorry, but I couldn't stop laughing... I've never tried this opening, but it seems a very weak opening. I think I will play this opening only once, when I try it and I want to lose, or I want a funny game. Who could play this way? Did he lose or he managed to reach a draw???

The key is not to assume you have a winning attack; just develop normally and White's self-hindered development (blocking of the KN, necessity of artificial castling) will give you a strong advantage in the end.

I think the trick might be to develop quickly and purposefully (or 'purposively'). White has in a sense 'given odds' in terms of space and time, but if he can hold out long enough, he will eventually catch up. Having said that, if I were Black, I'd be thinking about developing towards launching a pawn storm on the K-side.

Instead of 8...c5, I would have been very tempted to play 8...h5, with a view to striking at the target presented on g3. A possible line runs 8...h5 9.Bh3!? h4 10.Bxe6 hxg3+ 11.Kg2 fxe6 (11...Rxh2+?!) 12.hxg3 Rxh1 13.Kxh1 Bxg3. But there is nothing wrong with the move played.

Getting all your pieces out is sound play regardless. This move is attacking, though, as it threatens cxd4 and White must take with the e-pawn, further exposing his king.

There is a difference between 'defensive' and 'passive'. Black is being non-committal rather than defensive, it seems to me, creating a potential for attack, rather than committing himself to one ... yet, anyhow.

He may have misliked the situation after 12.dxc5 Bxc4, thoough it's hard to see the move played as an improvement.

Oh dear why do people waste moves like this? The knight on h3 has lost its ideal square.

Take it...some time in the future. 13...Nf5 seems to threaten that, and looks strong to me.

You could make the isolated pawn the focus of your attack, or use threats against it to develop an attack elsewhere, or else force White onto the back foot. Two moves that come to mind are 13...Nf5 and 13...Qb6. It appears that Black is now in a position to whip up a tremendous attack with something like this: 13...Qb6 14.Ne2 Nf5 15.Be3 e5!! (15...Qxb2 is OK too) 16.fxe5 Nxe3+ 17.Kxe3 Nxe5 18.Nef4 Nc5+ etc.

Well ... I'd think about that first. White's bishop is a "bad" bishop, somewhat hampered by his own pawns. Not all "bad" bishops are bad, but it seems pretty clear Black's bishop is the more mobile of the ecclesiastic pieces. But is it worth the knight? The one to be exchanged is very nicely outposted at f5 and is attacking the vulnerable d-pawn. In general I would be very reluctant to exchange it for White's sorry-looking bishop. But there is another consideration: to what extent, constricted as it is, does the e3-bishop hold together White's position? If one were to conclude that to take the bishop is to knock the props out from under White's game, then other considerations go by the board. Is such the case here?

Yes on reflection I think it is. But being honest I have to admit that wasn't the thinking at the time. I'm more of a knight player and dislike bishops. I'm also not good enough to make the judgement you describe. *lol*

Instead, Qb6 looks strong here. (Or, as ionadownman said, even earlier.)

I like the idea Be7 to f6 to put extra pressure on the isolated pawn. Oh yeah that would be amazing look how weak whites king is. I think i would resign as white here.

(!?) Probably OK, but I like 15...Rc8. bringing into action an idle piece, and presenting a threat to White's d-pawn. What threat? Consider this line: 15...Rc8 16.Rc1 (say) Nxd4!? 17.Kxd4 (not 17.Qxd4?? of course!) 17...Qf6+ 18.Ke3 Qf5 (this casual threat against the h3-knight gives Black a useful tempo). Now, White's exposed king guarantees Black a strong, probably winning, attack. nuntar's suggestion looks pretty good, too.

Then why not at once 16...Nxd4, winning the pawn in broad daylight (17.Kxd4?? e5+, winning the queen)? Of course White won't take on d4, but White still has to deal with the fork threat at c2 ...

Very timid. White cannot afford to waste time with his king still in the centre; in spite of the exchanges it is not yet an endgame.

A 'nothing' move. Black can still win the d-pawn. Possibly White noticed the possibility that a knight might threaten a fork from b4, but that has been 'on' (sort of) for a while, now. Black has been wise to keep that threat 'in potentia' rather than overplay his hand.

Instead of retreating to safety, the king seems bent on dancing tantalisingly in front of Black's pieces' noses. A bit like Henry V's dash from Harfleur to Calais via the Battle of Agincourt in order to humiliate the French...except the English won that one...

What has White got against his rooks? There they are, snorting their frustration, stamping their feet, champing at the bit ... doing squat. 18.Rad1 would have been handy, preventing 18...Nxd4!

It seems that 19...e5 might have offered a fine attack after 19.dxe5 Qf5+ 20.Kd2 Nd4. If instead 19.Nxd5 Nb8 opens up the d-file for Blacks major pieces.

I don't know whether White's rook move was directed against the move ...e5, but it seems instead to have brought it on. Instead, Nf2 or Ng1 would have brought the knight to safety. For quite some time now, Black has had an edge, but without being able to extend that lead. White has somehow remained in touch. But now Black definitely gets the upper hand.

Good - but even better was 21...Nxd4! 22.Qd1 (just about forced) 22...e4+ after which 23.Ke3 Bb6 or 23.Kd2 Nf3+ will lose material - the exchange at least. Note that 23.Kxd4 is not playable: 23...Bb6+ 24.Ke5 Qe6#. As for the other pawn moves - the captures ...exd5 or ...exf5. Both would still have led to a sizeable advantage to Black, but I think the move chosen was the best of the three.

And the king can't go anywhere at the moment either! Now he is stuck and immobilised on the River Somme, unable to advance to Calais or retreat to Harfleur.

White wanted to protect the d-pawn - it has no other defenders, else. The bad part is that the king is not an effective defender...
