It's particularly to be avoided when when White's dark-square bishop is in the vicinity. After a check on h6, Black is going to be, in effect, a rook down for quite some time...

or Qe5 Kg8 Ng5 h6 Qxh8+ Kxh8 Nxf7+ with large advantage

Now White has an extra Rook, so the game is hard (if not impossible) to save already.

Exchanges that lose development tempi can actually help Black here. I would go for maximum activation of pieces, so 20.Rfe1 with the idea of 20...Qe5; 21.Re5 and 22.Rae1 with easy win.

Now I see that the line mentioned by Marin is much stronger than the one I have actually played. During the game (and the annotation!), it did not even occur to me that there could be a different way to play this position. Luckily it turned out o.k. for me anyway... Yes, but Black has solved his development problems and he has the pair of Bishops - so White must be quick and precise, to finish Black off before counterplay can be organized.

there's an interesting variation, Ng4. If Bb4, Nf6+! Kc6 Re6, threating Rc1+. This is good also, but not aggressive enough
