29....Ka8? is lemon. 29....Ne5 holds, leaving White at least a rook down. Further: in the game line: 30....Rxc7 is weaker than 30...Kb7 even though White finally has a significant advantage.

This game was of pure luck. If black played perfectly, white could have lost.

still, it was a very entertaining watch!  

this game was played in Moscow in 1990. Evgeniy Kalegin has maintained a 2400+ rating since at least 2000 and received his IM title in 1993. currently he is ranked 1424 in the world. Sergey Yuferov is also an IM, but is currently ranked 2983 in the world. IM Yuferov is 10 yrs older and was already an IM when this game was played. I suspect that in the current game, IM Yuferov was doing fine against an aggressive, gifted young player until he ran into time trouble and folded...

This was an entertaining game with entertaining (and convincing) annotation. However I think that these guidelines will seldom work. In this game white didn't have to play perfectly, just good, and probably would have won. For shocking an audience, yes (unless you lose), but for good chess, no.
