I'm not sure if Black is worried about the constricting Bf6 here, but I'd hope not, given the obvious pawn promotion. I'd imagine even 33... f6 is playable here for a draw. Black is always a pawn up so sacrificing one in an opposite bishop endgame is no big deal. 33... f6 34. exf6+ Kf7 35. Kf2 d6 36. Bxd6 Kxf6 (Edit: I realised I could give up the d-pawn instead of the a-pawn!)

Again, 34...g5 is a must. If 35.Bxg5+ Kg6 36.Be7 (forced to avoid the a4 pawn from advancing) Kf5 and black king joins the game again. If 35.fxg5+ Kg6 threatening a3 followed by Kxg5.

Yes, mate in unavoidable   Sure black can try 38...f6 to elongate the game but it will allow white to promote a queen after 39.exf6. This is why either 38.Bb4 or Bc5 is faster, if 38.Bb4 exf4 39.Be7 is mate. If any other move by black, Bd1# This is faster than the text
