The only other reasonable defence extends the game by three moves: 1. Rg2 Re2 2. Rbg1 Nh3 3. Nc5 Qxg2+ 4. Rxg2 Re1+ 5. Rg1 Rxg1#

Black was already better by move 4. Until Jkarp learns some openings and to develop first before attacking, he will consistently lose.

To be honest, the performance in this game was much lower than the rating of the white player. @dmaestro-I never play this variation of the French defense, and yet I could play it easily. The learning of openings has nothing to do with his improvement, but the latter does. It is actually really easy-just maximize your activity and don't hang anything. That is what all the principles are based on, so if ou just do that, you will play the opening very well.

Agree with matsany actually. I think it's worth noting that black's play - bar missing the free piece early on - was nicely clinical. A good example of how to punish poor opening play.

Sorry for almost acting as if white made this annotation but again I feel it's disappointing to see such a poor game by jkarp, I only feel this way because I saw the way he played well in his first annotation.

matsany, black indeed did play well, but this was only due to the fact that white's play was faulty. jkarp, when you understand the rules of development and learn some openings, your play will improve. I also agree with cdeburca.

id=jkarp: I've seen games in which you played way better than you did in this game. But really the whole game came down to White's 4th move; Ne5?? It need not have been a losing move, but the threat it represented was too transparent and easy to dodge, whilst at the same time led to subsequent misjudgements that led to having difficulties mobilizing White's pieces, an unsound sacrifice of a piece with no real follow-up available, and finally the Queen being deflected to quite the wrong side of the board whilst Black stormed the White's King's castled position. Black could have ended the game more efficiently than he did (see my comment at move 14 - actually commenting on Black's move 13), but he didn't have to worry about super accuracy as White's resources were too emaciated to offer much resistance.

Just reviewed this game as posted in the opening forum. @jkarp,I think you were playing a higher rated player and some how played with out developing. Thanks for sharing this game that you played this way, It's an example to all of us that there is a reason to control the center and have proper development of minor pieces.
