This could get interesting: White with a central majority, Black with passed pawns on the flanks.

Probably Black was wise not to go for 46...gxh4 on account of 47.f4 ..., 48.f5. ++++++++++ Looking at this 2 years later, maybe 46...gxh4 wasn't such a bad choice, threatening to force the queens off by ...Qg6 or ...Qg8. If the queens come off, the pawn ending looks winning for Black! in response, then, 47.f4?? would be a disastrous mistake. White might have kept an edge by 47.Kh3, after which the advance of the f-pawn becomes viable.

White can slowly improve the position, while Black can only wait ...

Black's hope is in the c-pawn, but that hope has become very slender now that White has joined passed pawns. Sooner or later the King will advance decisively into the action. This is a very difficult end game for Black. White has done well so far not only to maintain the initiative, but even to extend it into an advantage.

Black is short of good moves. The Queen will be forced to resume blockade duties shortly...

This is good play. White threatens (inter alia) 54.Qg5ch, winning. I don't think Black has any longer a defence.

Possibly 53...c4 was worth a look. For one thing, 54.Qxg5 ch would not be playable, as the c-pawn would run through to promote after the queens have gone.

Going back to White's 56th move: 56.f5ch! looks good. The idea is 56...Qxf5 57.Qxf5ch Kxf5 58.e7 and wins. The King can not play 56...Kh6 owing to 57.Qh8#. So 56....Kh7 would have been forced. Then White plays 57.e7 or Qf4, either of which look to me very promising.

Now he'll run out of checks, after 61.Qe5.

The word we use for this type of humour is 'dry'...  . He probably realised that any appeal such an offer might have had, had long since evaporated.

A fine game to play through - skating very close to the abyss on occasion; just the sort of thing that makes a good story. There is plenty to see and to learn from in this game.
