Well, there you go! A good developing move with a gain of tempo. Another move I like is the bishop sac: 33.Bf4ch gxf4 34.Rad1ch Ke5 35.Rfe1#. The bishop sacrifices itself in order to gain time and free the rooks to deliver the coup de grace.

This was his only legal move. All other squares are covered by the queen and bishop.

What ION said is true. But, I was looking at 38.Qd5+ which also forks and wins a Rook.

Correct. The whole position - note POSITION, not moves - has to be repeated. Not only that, every feature of the position has to be repeated; availability of the 'en passant' move, the right to castle, whose move it is. On Gameknot, you can try to claim a draw, and it will decide whether your claim is valid. Of course, you don't want a draw here.

Here I would suggest 40. Qxh8. Black's unmoved pieces are guarding several squares around the king, making it harder to strike the killing blow. Once the rook is down, the h7 pawn follows, and then Black's king is sandwiched again.

I agree, and in fact, I would not have considered anything else, besides 40.Qxh8.
