Running to the the queenside with Kd7 is very dangerous and loses material, but what happens in the text is even worse.

 
13. Be5
A double attack on both the bishop on f5 and the rook on h8. Although black still has his material edge, I don't think anyone would choose the black pieces in this position!

This defends the f7 pawn once, jettisoning the rook in the hopes of living to fight a little longer...

 
14. Bxf7
! But white doesn't take the bait at all. Black has no good defense to Bxg6 , which leads to mate, and so resigns. Note that black has 5 pieces still at home -- whereas all of white's pieces are active. Thanks to Vidas for the game, and the lesson is twofold -- don't accept the vienna gambit with exf4, and don't go grabbing material when you're behind in development! Hope you enjoyed this one!
