11. Be3
Protecting d4

11... Bg4
Pinning my knight.

12. f3
Blocking the pin

But hello, what is this? He is going into the pawn sacrifice variation, with the pawns already exchanged on d (by 9....cxd4 10 cxd4). Compared with playing it without this exchange, it is meant to be better for white. I had been planning to decline the pawn, but given he had made this exchange I decided to take the pawn.

13. Bxf7+
So I took it

13... Rxf7
He takes back

14. fxg4
I take his bishop

14... Rxf1+
He took my rook. Now at the time it seemed more normal to take with the queen. In fact this is a big mistake and I should have taken with the king.

15. Qxf1
But I didn't

15... Qd7
He attacks g4

16. h3
I protect g4

16... Nc4
But now what am I to do? If I play Bf2 then Nd2 forks queen and e4 pawn. I had known this from university days, but I just forgot about it.

17. Qc1
So I decided to protect the bishop. Stockfish prefers the indirect defence of the bishop with 17. Qd1 and if Nxe3 18. Qb3+ forking king and knight.

17... Rc8
Instead of taking the bishop he decides to develop his rook.

18. Bf2
I decided to keep the bishop.

18... Qe6
Attacking e4. Surprisingly to me, after the game Stockfish suggests 19. e4-e5 and if Nxe5 Qe3. It gives advantage to white after 19. e4-e5.

19. Ng3
But I protected e4 like this.

19... b5
Protecting c4, freeing his rook for action on the f file.

20. Qb1
Attacking b5. Stockfish now recommends Na3 with equality.

20... Rf8
But my opponent starts dreaming of a king-side attack. He is now threatening 21.....Rxf2 22. Kxf2 Rxd4+ Stockfish likes Qc2 now.
