Capa himself annotated this game (all the way through.) It's a mirror image of the Capa-EZB game I posted five months ago in that this time it's Capa's opponent who builds a winning position with White only to let it slip away. |

My idea was to exert sufficient pressure against White's K P to win it. |

White's threat to regain the Pawn was with the idea of gaining time to develop his pieces. |

This move aims at quick development to keep the initiative. |

Now down the Exchange, Black must play aggressively. |

22.. Q x Q would have given White a decided advantage, enough to win with exact play. Mieses, however, feared the complexities of an endgame where, though ahead the Exchange, he would be a Pawn minus. He preferred to keep the Queens on the board and keep up the attack. |

My plan is very simple. I will bring my Bishop to B 3. Then I will advance my Queen-side Pawns, where I have a majority (4 to 3.) Coupled with the attacking power of the Bishop at B 3, this plan gives me a reasonable chance at success. |

To prevent White from playing P - K R 4. I would answer this with... P - K Kt 3 winning White's Queen. |

On assuming the defensive, White has correctly placed his Rooks on white squares where they cannot be attacked by Black's Bishop. |

The Queen must be in the center of the fray now that Black's attack has to be brought home. |
