IN PRAISE OF SECULARISM
The important assumption that Humanism makes is that people are,or at least can be,
self creating and self-determining with no reference to 'supernatural ' powers. But in many
cases, the burden of history and society makes self creation impossible. This certainly
happens when people are trapped in a rigid religious tradition which tells them what to
think and how to behave and refuses to allow them freedom. However the effort to be a
free minded individual in pursuit of worthwhile goals suited to one's individual values is
what gives us our best chance to be fully human.Let us in the spirit of shared humanity try
to celebrate all things that make life beautiful and satisfying.

Empiricisism
One of my core beliefs was first formulated by the great English philosopher John Locke in
the 17th century-'Only believe that which you know to be true from your own experience
All else is mere speculation' ok in theory but almost impossible to live by in real life. Grabe
