@kightgator
okay, thanks. This is what you said (below), which I don't understand. Could you simplify it?

I do want to lay down one ground rule it involves

.........

I have 2 games that I have planning with this complete with $25 dollar prize for each game but we can get to those later now that I see brian is

just everybody agree not to bring that into this disscuion Since brian sent the initial challenge he should post it and lets get started he can even post my reply of players I select for the match I’ll
Brian post the players for both side in an format so everyone can follow along’

the fun began when brian refused my counter off. I pick up the if brian don’t have it

So brin bring them up on the particulars on those 2 things,

I need to go out a smoke a cancer stick and I will be right back.

@kneilca2 won't happen brian don't want me to respong directly yo hom, he has me ignored

#1 Block or Bleed
We join in not accepting new matches. This will cost us #1, and possibly end our streak
of 20 consecutive months of being #1. Many of you obviously disagree, and do not believe
the Captains should have been consulted about this major change. I defend your right to
believe this... I wonder how many of you, like Voltaire, will defend my right to disagree
with GK?

@gator: I do not ascribe to these dichotomies. Even here at GK the world is not simply divided into problems and solutions.

@klingle What evidence of defending your right to disagree are you hoping to observe?
klingle

I simply ask that my team, or I, not be personally belittled because the issue is important to us.
I have no problem with those Captains who do not find the issue important. I even have no
problem with those that may agree, but choose to say, or do, nothing.

@klingle
Fair enough. There should be no belittling of people around these parts anyway.

I admire you all...
For standing up for what you strongly believe in. I will defend anyone's right to do that until the day I die.

@gator: I admire that you really want this feature changed to the point of not accepting challenges. You seem to be a strong person who stands for what they believe in. However....your words are very strong. I may not desire to be part of the solution, but I am most certainly not part of the problem.

@Klingle: I really admire your stand on this. Your team is #1 on the ladder and you and your team are willing to take a chance to let that slide for your strong beliefs. That speaks volumes and I wish you luck!

I don't belittle either of you. I hope soon your teams will again be available for challenges.

Good luck!

Oh....
I also meant to say that I think I became captain just before this change was made, so I never really had the chance to use the old way. My primary purpose for being on this site is to simply play chess. I also have 19 team members depending on me to give them fair matches. My loyalty has to be with them first and foremost.

@gator
Apology accepted. I'd like to think that we are all in this together and that "divide-and-conquer" is a strategy used by one's enemies, not by friends and allies. Let's stick together in a web of interconnection rather than a solid block cleaaved in two.

Request for clarification
Sorry, but I seem to have lost some points throughout the discussion. Specifically, what do you see as the 'Great Satan' in using the team forums for communicating with team members? Is it to advocate for non-paying members to have equal access to the forums? My understanding is that they can read the posts, just can't post anything themselves?
klingle

@johnclark
Good questions deserve good answers, here is my feeble effort.
1} Cetainly participation of non premium members is a concern,
2} on this site many Captains have said their % of team response to messages has been
reduced under the new system,
3} active, multi-purpose, forums {such as Block or Bleed} make continuity of messaging
while playing a consultive team game, etc., almost impossible. Each new thread alters the
order of the forum message. Each addition to an existing thread also disturbs the order.
i.e. when we play a GM each member is encouraged to suggest moves, but each time they
do, the last forum post gets knocked down the list causing messages to go unnoticed.
4} Perhaps most importantly, no input from Captains was solicited before, or after, the change
giving the perception there is no effort to, at least, look for a common ground solution that
would work for GK, and concerned Captains.

Hope the answer was close to the quality of the question

@klingle: Thanks. That lays out the position fairly nicely. Rather novel for this site lately.

I assume that you advised the GK administration of your points of contention. Someone on Club Captain suggested using a free outside forum like Lefora. I tried it out and it it works well enough. What are your thoughts on using those forums?

re: the forums.

My observation:
Don't mean to speak out of turn against GK, but this whole issue strikes me as a feature that we as paid members paid for. Case case closed. Do we get a refund? didn't think so.

My personal thoughts on this are as an actual business owner that is always watching our cost structures. This is simply an issue of cost versus performance. Meaning GK has come to the conclusion that they are not happy with the costs associated with providing this service. I've no beef with that, but they should have taken a proactive approach instead of a "deal with it" one. I also think it is somewhat underhanded to limit free members from posting in a team forum. To me this just is a marketing ploy push for a higher conversion rate among players. Outside forums is not the answer. Heck this just internally fragments the already scattered teams. maybe GK should give us a price associated with this feature and we as people choose to pay the extra $$

But lets face it, there are many choices for people to play online chess. GK is just one of them. I think GK should be looking at ways to encourage more interaction within a team. Not limit it.

@johnclark
I have detailed my concerns to GK, and received the same response that everyone is
alredy familiar with. Once again, you ask the right question when you talk about possible
solutions instead of focusing on differences. I do not believe the answer is to satisfy me, or
my team. I believe a win/win solution should be looked for that satisfies GK and the
majority of Captains that contribute to the success of GK. I have no demands, or preconcieved
ideas of a solution. I believe that if a middleground exists, we can only find it by looking for it.
