Today's destination....
I have a little calendar on my desk that has little words of wisdom each day. I realized I had not flipped my desk calendar over in a few days and when I flipped to today's page, June 18, the phrase seemed very appropriate due to some unpleasantness I've been experiencing on this site lately (not within the clubs).

Collect only "life-lifters" and discard all the "life-sinkers"

So I'm taking the day off from castle collecting and setting my sails to seek out life-lifters and leave the life-sinkers behind. Life is too short.

Life Lifting
You've got the right attitude Misty. Leave the Life-sinkers behind. Pity them if you must, but not for too long. Life lifters are where we all need to concentrate our energies.

Energy
I could not agree more with M. Mistee or Tex.

Yet.....things do not always work out for people.. Weeks, months, years and decades of struggle leave some people...a bit short on the optimism front.

it may be hard to imagine, but for some folks.....50 years of life is almost too much of seeing glimpses of beauty and not being able to touch that beauty.

Personally....I try to stay away from "life sinkers", but ironically....I can't get away from myself. Cronic depression is simply a cronic pain. Anyone who has suffered an injury that goes untreated.....lol.....I love that phrase......"treating" an injury/ as if it was a gift....the "treating" part... well...

One gets acustmed to the pain and perseveres, but even i admit that I am xronic pain for those around me . This becomes the hardest thing.

Optimism
Whenever you're not able to feel optimistic...just FAKE it! Half the time, it works. Keep breathing.

I think....
That at times we can all be a pain for those around us. Sometimes they don't understand us and we don't understand them. But it all seems to work out eventually.

And maybe treating the pain IS a treat. Because if you feel pain, at least you feel something. It's when we're numb and can't feel that we're in real trouble.

Yes, pain is real..
I like what you say Misty & Ed. And i don't mean to be flippant when I say that you can "fake" your way through whatever pain you might have.

But being able to feel pain is important. I'm sure there is a more valid source to quote (like Socrates or Freud)...but in Star Trek Five, Captain Kirk refuses to allow the Vulcan character Sybok to magically remove his pain. "I need my pain," Kirk argues.

So you don't have to love your pain, just know that it's there and find a way to deal with it. By being aware of it, I suppose it helps one recognize it and empathize with it when we see it in those around us.

Whew! It's getting awfully philosophical in here for a Tuesday Morning!

Tex, that reminds of.....
An old episode of Little House On The Prairie where there was a man who said he was an evangelist/healer. A boy was in great pain and his father brought him to be healed. The boy believed and his pain went away....but the cause of the pain did not. You have to hand it Charles Ingalls, the poor but wise patriarch in the series. He knew immediately that taking away the boy's pain was not the answer. You see, the pain was taken away and they thought the boy was healed, but he wasn't. The cause of the pain was still there. The pain was his only warning that something was wrong. You take away the pain, then you take away the only warning that there is something worse that needs to be corrected. That episode has always stood out in my mind for some reason. It made me think, even all those many, many years ago that pain is not always a bad thing.
