The Rules
The Rules are simple.

There are currently no Club Rules. Please follow GK Rules, however. And please make yourself available for communication with Moderators.

Below, for your convenience, is a copied version of the GK Rules. You are responsible for yourself. The Questions/mini-FAQ below The Rules section outlines clearly all other Rules type questions.

Rules of Conduct:
You may not harass, insult, badger, threaten or rush other players.

You may not use any sexually explicit, vulgar, rude, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, inflammatory, racially or ethnically offensive language and/or images. No exceptions for abbreviated or misspelled words with clear intended meaning.

You may not use chess engines nor chess computers to help you decide your next move. You may not consult with anyone nor ask for advice about any of your games in progress (nor provide such advice to other GameKnot players about their games in progress, whether solicited or not). You may analyze games with chess engines after they are finished. You may consult chess books or game/move databases at any time.

You may not artificially manipulate your rating. It includes, but not limited to, resigning multiple games with equal or winning positions, letting multiple games time out while still visiting GameKnot, intentionally losing games to lower your rating in general.

You may not create nor use more than one account on GameKnot. Only one player per account is allowed.

You may not post any disturbing, vulgar or obscene images on your profile page. You may not post any links to any websites that would violate these Community Standards.

You may not send any unsolicited mass messages (aka spam) to other GameKnot users.

You may not recruit for, advertise or otherwise promote other websites, products and/or services, without prior written permission from GameKnot, and without clearly indicating all advertisements as such. Unsolicited religious propaganda is not allowed.

You will not attempt to interfere with or hack into any of the GameKnot servers. You may not cause excessive load on GameKnot servers and/or excessive use of server resources (including, but not limited to, using download bots or automated scripts to access GameKnot pages). You may not disrupt or interfere with the normal functionality of the website in any way (which includes disabling or blocking the ads).

You will not violate any local, state, national or international laws or regulations.

You may not impersonate any GameKnot staff, nor claim to act on behalf of GameKnot staff.

If your account is suspended or if your private messaging and/or forum posting privileges are revoked, you may not use other users' accounts to get around the ban. You may not help other users with suspended accounts and/or revoked messaging/forum posting privileges to get around their ban.

You may not use the forums, or another player, to get around someone's ignore list. I.e. you may not post a message in the forums with the sole purpose of addressing the player who placed you on their ignore list, or ask someone else to contact them on your behalf. You may not help another player get around someone else's ignore list.

You may not invite, or otherwise actively solicit, any players to join your team if they are already a member of another team.

You may not bet, nor accept bets on any games or events on GameKnot.

Further, I include the GK Questions on Clubs:
GameKnot Chess Clubs mini-FAQ:

Q: What can be discussed in a club forum?
Anything, as long as it is within GameKnot's Rules and Policies.

Q: What will happen if someone breaks the rules in a club?
Club founder is the one responsible for everything that happens in the club (although the club founder can appoint moderators to help with maintaining the club). Any forum posts that violate GameKnot's Rules and Policies must be promptly deleted and an appropriate disciplinary action taken against the person who posted it (an official warning and/or removal from the club). If the offending post hasn't been deleted within 24 hours after the club founder and moderators were informed about it, the club forum will be closed for new posts for 1 week on first occasion, 2 weeks for second violation, 3 weeks for third and so forth. There's no penalty if the offending post is deleted within 24 hours, unless there is an excessive number of violations in the club and/or the club founder/moderators are intentionally waiting until the last possible moment.

Q: Does this mean anyone can post anything they want as long as their post is deleted within 24 hours?
No, all GameKnot's Rules and Policies still apply, including account termination for multiple violations. There will be no penalty for the club itself if all offending posts are promptly taken care of.

Q: How many clubs can I join?
As many as you like. Only premium subscribers can be club members though.

Q: Is there an extra fee if I want to join a club?
No, the only requirement is a premium subscription (any level). There's a small annual club fee if you'd like to start a new club (designed to prevent creation of an excessive number of GameKnot clubs and to ensure vested interest in enforcing the rules by the club founder).

Q: What is the difference between teams and clubs?
One of the main differences is that teams are for groups of people to compete against other groups of people, whereas clubs are for interaction within a group of people. Although there's certainly nothing wrong with a team opening their own club, or vice versa.

Q: At what point certain language violates GameKnot's "vulgarity" criteria?
A good guideline to determine whenever certain language is acceptable or not is whether you would repeat it in front of your young daughter (niece, granddaughter, friend's daughter, etc.). Also, looking up words in the dictionary (here or here, for example) can help. "Vulgar", "obscene" or similar qualifiers in the definition is a good sign that a certain word shouldn't be used on GameKnot. If in doubt, please simply consider using less offensive ways to convey the same meaning — the human language is pretty powerful that way.

Thank you,

DoK
