Looking at all the reality shows (I don't watch them but have seen some), looking at various crimes, various news interviews with the average person, seeing so many people act like idiots and actually be proud to do so...are we any smarter than the average person 1000 years ago? I think one might make the case we could be dumber? Although we have so many more things now, so much better technology is it because we as a whole are smart or because we have piggy backed off the minds of different geniuses who have appeared throughout time. I mean who here knows how to build a cell phone? Who here, even with the proper tools, could build a flat screen TV? If you were suddenly teleported through time to 1000 years ago, could you do anything special to show the more primitive population how we have advanced?
aussiespud 17-Apr-13, 20:19	Good topic....Ive wondered about this myself from time to time Off the the top of my head, the "average" person would probably: (1) have a better understanding of how some health problems work and how it they can be treated (eg good hygiene) (2) have a greater understanding of basic maths and chemistry...although I'm not sure that would impress the average 1013 AD person too much
anomalocaris 17-Apr-13, 20:23	Also How comfortable would you be telling people things? Some things to them might be unbelievable and you could be labeled a witch or warlock. Never know how they might react.
changeling 17-Apr-13, 20:26	Healthcare would be the obvious thing to take back, as aussiespud says. If so inclined I would think that anyone from today (educated) may have prevented the plague among other 'natural' disasters pertaining to the health of a community. The simple logic of washing ones hands these days would have been revolutionary to early 'medics'.
