Beethoven Quartet#16. The great Masterpiece.
I have always been fascinated by this Man. More so then all the other great Composers. I listened at an early age to all his Symphonies many times. To this day if i hear the 3rd, i say its the best!!,only to hear the 7th or 8th, and change my mind again. And so on and so on. When i got a little older i started listening to his Sonatas and thought, they are his best works!!.But then i began to listen to his Quartets and finally found what i was looking for. All are profound artistic expressions but his later Quartets astounded me as i began to understand them. I once thought 'Dissonance' to be a bad thing, not fit for music. But as i delved deeper i began to see that dissonance was really the other half of life itself. And just as essential. The following Quartet was Beethoven's last work. Broken by sadness and strife, and personal tragedies, he somehow rises above this terrible Dissonance, not by avoiding it but by incorporating and excepting it. He died several weeks later. But this profound work shows he found comfort in his own soul at last. It is in 4-short segments. If Possible watch full screen. comparisons
are difficult, even for a single individual, and much more so when several individuals are consodered. So, I cannot say whether this is "the best", perhaps it is today, may be not tomorrow?
