How many games do we need to complete?
Hi,

I was just wondering how many games/matches we need to complete before we properly join the team table and the team ladder. Please accept my apologies if this question has already been answered somewhere on the forum. I have looked back but I cant see it and the information doesn't seem to be easily available anywhere else.

Cheers

Harry

I believe it's 20 that you need to complete.

If you scroll to the very bottom of the team table it shows the number there

Thanks Simon
So it does. You are correct, I didn't scroll down quite far enough. We have some way to go yet then.

It is definitely 20. In fact, I don't know why it is, but when you first join the site, GK requires you to complete, at least 20, and I believe win 15 games before you're allowed to join a team. I don't like the rule since Erika wanted to join my team and would've become a member sooner. But, GK didn't allow her since she didn't have enough wins, at the time. I hope that the rule changes.

It is a Good Rule
A person can finish their games and earn a rating before joining a team.

10 wins prior to joining a team.
I just rejoined a team and it's 10 wins prior to joining a team

Click on "TEAMS" tab; these rules at the bottom of the page
Rules for Chess Teams:

Players can be a member of only one team at a time.
At least 10 wins in any regular rated chess games are required for player to be able to join a team.
Combined team score is calculated for each team member as following: +1 for each win, 0 for draws, -1 for each lost team game.
Team captains and co-captains can challenge other teams to a team match, or accept/decline other teams' challenges.
To challenge another team, a number of players (at least 2) is selected by the team captain/co-captain. The other team responds with their selection of players (equal number). The first team's captain/co-captain then approves the selection, and the match is started.
Each team match consists of a number of games with the time control set to either 3, 5 or 7 days per move, 2 games per each player (one as white and one as black). E.g. a 3-player team match will have 3 players from each team and 6 games will be played total (2 per player).
The result of each team match is determined by the combined score of all games in a match (1 for a win, 1/2 for a draw, 0 points for a lost game). After all games are finished in a match, the participating teams will be assigned a new rank on the Team Ladder.
Each team game also affects the team's rating, using the same Elo rating formula used for individual chess ratings, as if the whole team was a single player participating in each team game.
When a player quits a team or moves to another team, all games started while being in the old team will still be counted towards that team's rating.
Teams can have up to 30 free members and an unlimited number of premium subscribers.
Only premium subscribers with Platinum or Titanium memberships can start a new team or act as a team captain/co-captain.
A team can only have 1 captain and up to 3 co-captains. Team captains can promote regular team members to a co-captain status. Co-captains can challenge other teams to a team match, and accept or decline other team's challenges.

I am certain that it used to be less than 10 games to join a team. It was 6, I believe, and that is
when the rating fist shows, after the 5th rated game was complete. Is this correct?

Mini Tournament requires 3 wins and 6 completed rated games
My memory is not perfect, but the limit has always been 10 to join a team as far as I can remember.
Perhaps the confusion lies in the 6 completed games requirement to join a mini-tournament. See the mini-tournament rules posted below:

Mini-tournament rules:

At least 3 wins in any rated games and 6 completed rated games total are required for participation in mini-tournaments (i.e. a provisional rating is required). Players with a free membership can play in only 1 mini-tournament at a time, premium subscribers can play in several mini-tournaments simultaneously.
To complete a mini-tournament, each player will play 2 games against every other player, once as black and once as white. Only up to 4 games will be started for each player in the same mini-tournament, and no more than 1 game against the same opponent simultaneously. More games will be started as the player finishes previous games, until all possible games are completed.
Scoring system: +1 for each win, +0.5 for each draw and 0 points for each lost game.
After all games are finished for all players, the final mini-tournament points will be calculated based on how many players participated and the final place for each player:
Size 1st place 2nd place 3rd place 4th place 5th place
6th place
11 players: 11 pts 9 pts 7 pts 5 pts 3 pts 1 pt
9 players: 9 pts 7 pts 5 pts 3 pts 1 pt
7 players: 7 pts 5 pts 3 pts 1 pt
5 players: 5 pts 3 pts 1 pt
The corresponding points are added to each player's total mini-tournament points.
If more than one player ends up with the same score, the corresponding points will be added up and evenly divided between the players with the same score.
A number of mini-tournament points are deducted from the player's total when they join or start a new mini-tournament:
Size
Cost
11 players 5 points
9 players 4 points
7 players 3 points
5 players 2 points
Starting a thematic mini-tournament (i.e. setting up a starting position for all games) has an additional cost of 1 point. If a player doesn't have enough points to join or start a mini-tournament, they are still allowed to do so, and their total is reset to 0 points.
After withdrawing from a mini-tournament, you will still need to finish all games that have already been started for you (i.e. no active games will be cancelled). All remaining unstarted games will be recorded as lost in the mini-tournament table, but will not affect your rating and stats. The mini-tournament will still be marked as active until you finish the remaining games in progress (if any), or for the next 30 days (whichever occurs last), during which time it will count against the number of mini-tournaments you can participate in at the same time according to your membership.
If over time player's rating falls 200 or more points below the low limit or rises 200 or more points above the high limit, the player will be automatically withdrawn from the mini-tournament. All games that haven't been started for the player yet are considered to be forfeited in their opponent's favor for the purpose of calculating the mini-tournament score, without affecting anyone's rating nor stats. All completed and still active games are counted towards the mini-tournament score as usual. Excluding mini-tournaments with no rating limits.
Players who time-out in 5 games in a mini-tournament are automatically withdrawn from it (in order to prevent further losses, because mini-tournament games are started automatically).
Players will not be able to participate in mini-tournaments if the number of rated games that they lost in the past 40 days in under 16 moves is either: 20 or more; or 20% or more, out of all rated games finished in the last 40 days.

What I don't like is that there is a limit. When mentoring Erika, she wanted to join my team right away. And, if it were up to me, I would've said yes, right then and there. But, we have these rules of how many games you need to win. It took, at least, a month before I could admit her onto my team.

That is Good
Your opponents need some idea of her actual strength. She loses twenty games to 2200+ rated players, no one has any real idea of her true strength.

So I defend the limit.m yes, I had to wait six weeks for some of my team mates (more than one). Everyone follows the same sensible rule.

The Answer
Yesterday, our team completed our first match with a draw and immediately joined the ladder in 171st place, (out of 172). I'm a great believer in starting slowly.

So, as already established, a new team needs to complete 20 team games before entering the table and needs to complete 1 team match before entering the ladder.

Congratulations, Harrigan48
We look forward to seeing how Chess Friends does.

There used to be many more teams than there are now. Not sure why for the decline.

You are 171 now.
If you win against a team at #1, you go to #85.
If you can win again against #1, you go to #42.
If you can win again against #1, you go to #21.
If you can win again against #1, you go to #10.
If you can win again against #1, you go to #5.

In a best case scenario, you are just 5 matches away from the top.

The above is for the team ladder.
The team table ratings are based on player team ratings,
and it is a different kettle fish altogether.

The ladder is position based while the table is team rating based.
