Deleted Posts and deleted Threads
Just recently there has been an increase in deleted posts (by users and moderators) and even
at least one deleted thread. Most of us will occasionally delete a post because we cannot edit the post.

But what about posts deleted by moderators? Where do we draw the line? All comments are welcome.

Great Question
This is a great question that I don't even know, Mike. But, when a recent thread was marked for deletion, it was related to posts reported for abuse. I thought about whether to unmark it for deletion and then tell the founder why. However, I saw the potential for things to get out of hands and have more or potential violations at that. So, after giving it some hard thought, I understood why he deleted a thread because he mentioned why. And, I agreed with his decision which is why I unstickied it. It's just that, sometimes, I would be overly paranoid about that kind of thing which is why, at the time, when I saw report abuse complaints, I'd just lock the thread for new posts. But, the founder did an excellent job in explaining why it should be left open. So, once JJ unlocked it, I left it that way.

As I understood the policy, all deleted posts by moderators had to be copied by the moderator who intended to delete it, and reported to the founder king_0_nothing. Perhaps all moderators do not understand this. I, personally, would have liked to have seen some of the posts on the deleted thread, but then, I am not a moderator of the Captains' Club.

I don't think I could handle moderator, not with all the pressure it would put on me. I'd debate internally for who knows how long on whether or not action needs to be taken...then I'd debate internally for who knows long on whether this person or this person hates me for the actions I've taken...then I'd debate internally for who knows how long on something else that doesn't need a multi hour long internal debate...yeah I'm weird like that   (Thankfully this doesn't come up in my team often)

I do know though that whether action is taken or not should be based on both Gameknot's rules and policies, as well as the preferences of the one who is in charge, which in this case, is JJ, king_0_nothing. Like the captain of a team, he's, how you could say, is the captain of this club, so if he leaves extra guidelines, they should be followed. I agree with what he's done and is still trying to do so that everyone can have a good time in this club. If someone doesn't, well, they don't have to stay of course.

I am very glad to say, Joe (joveyboy) that JJ is very capable of handling the situation. I would not want to be moderator on the Captains' Club either.

You would think a site this size would go with a VBB bulletin Board.
With that, you can edit, split, merge and move threads. It has all
sorts of other great features too. This forum software is severely
limiting.

There might be a thread created as a type of discarded posts bin
for deleted posts. The moderator could copy and paste a deleted
post into this thread, editing as needed, with a citation of where
it came from and why it was deleted and moved. And then delete
the original post with a following post pointing to the relocated
post. In this way, editing is possible.

In this way the post is not actually deleted, but is moved into
a thread where a more thorough explanation is given as to why
it was removed. In this way, the censorship issue is skirted.

It also might be good to allow only mods into this bin thread,
by keeping it locked. Mods can unlock when posting and then relock.

I agree Shirley, I know I couldn't do all that

And I definitely like those ideas Classica. Whether Gameknot will ever decide to implement them one day is to be seen.

Thread Content
There were many posts on the deleted thread that had not been reported, but I wasn't sure any (save a few by ShirlmyGirl) were really all that worth saving, including my own.

Are you insinuating, lord_shiva, that I made inappropriate posts on the deleted thread? I am never rude and insulting as other people are to me. However, I do always try to be truthful.

Insinuating?

Nothing of the kind. Please read it again. I did, and am flummoxed at how you could have reached this conclusion.

While not all your posts WERE worth saving, just about the only content on that thread that WAS worth anything (including my own posts) was written by you. As I recall.

In other words, I thought you had some good content on that thread. If you have one fault it must be being over sensitive. I had not remotely implied anything negative about you, and again have no idea how you wrangled that conclusion out of what I wrote.

Granted, Lord Shiva is often given to sarcasm and irony. That absolutely was not the case here.

Deleted Posts
I don't want this thread to go the direction of the deleted thread.

Shirlmygirl's posts were perfectly innocuous. Completely innocent. I just didn't want anyone to misinterpret them the way I was misinterpreted so as to reopen old wounds.

Agreed
I really want to emphasize that I find the vast majority Shirlmygirl's posts both delightful and informative, and that she said nothing negative about me in the posts I chose (with deep regret) to remove.

Whether everyone has had their say or not, I'd just as soon this be the last word on this subject.

Does anyone have fun photos of cats?

Deleted Post
The last post by Shirlmygirl (16:11) was:

I really didn't misinterpret you, lord_shiva. When I read it again, I realized that. I apologize for posting that. To anyone who reads this, I did not say anything unpleasant about Lord-Shiva in my deleted posts. Too bad he felt he had to delete them.

[Last part deleted as being unnecessarily antagonistic].
