![]() I started with Microsoft Edge. I was fine with that, until it randomly broke one day. I couldn't access it for a couple months. By the time it was up again, I had switched to Google Chrome. I liked it, but many times it would seem to take ages to respond, and that often frustrated me as it seemed to do it only when I was trying to go fast on something I just got a new computer. I've used the same laptop since I first joined Gameknot in 2013. I forgot what a good computer was like lol. With the new computer, I am also trying a new web browser: Firefox. I've only used it a couple days, but I've immediately noted that I am yet to get any delayed responses, everything I try to go to on Gameknot it instant, and I absolutely love that! Granted, there were some features Google had that Firefox doesn't have, like saving information on a page after you leave it and then go back to it, though I'll have to make sure there's no settings for that. Granted, my new computer has a better connection to the internet than my old laptop as well, but from what I understand, Firefox is safer and more secure as well. I'll see how things work out in the coming days and weeks, but so far, I'm really liking it |

![]() Internet Explorer is the number one browser for downloading and installing a better browser. I was vastly amused with my last new PC. I attempted to access my bank account in IE and the bank said no way was I permitted in with such an unsecure, vulnerable, compromised program. I downloaded Firefox and used it for many years, and still use it on that XP PC. Facebook quit working on it a few months ago so I downloaded Chrome, which handles most things very well. Edge is not really any improvement over IE, I am told, and that its use is also discouraged, although it is essentially just Google Chrome. GK has not broken its interface, which is cool. I like that they support such a wide variety of programs. I have not found a browser that does not work, especially now that they added mobile support. The one drawback to that is that I sometimes have to strip the m. off URLs. |

![]() I do check Gameknot on my tablet at times as well. I have Safari on there...and I hate it, so many times it doesn't want to respond. It's slow and painful for me to deal with. I don't like being on Gameknot through a mobile device, and considering what I just said, you can see why I don't check Gameknot through my tablet often lol (I've never actually used the mobile version of Gameknot, I should probably test that out one of these days...) It is nice indeed though that Gameknot works on any web browser, well at least, as far as I know. |

![]() such as your browser history IE every page you visited, and caches a ton of stuff. This makes it go faster - until the cache becomes so big that it is time consuming to find things. Every so often you need to clean up Chrome to keep it working fast. Meanwhile Google has turned into such a monster censoring and working for the Chinese that I am considering removing Google from my life altogether. A friend, who is in tech, suggested the Brave Browser. It's built on the same open source chromium framework, and it looks pretty good. bravebrowserweb.com I'm still on Chrome but considering a switch. |

![]() 1. Browsing & Download History 2. Active Logons 3. Form & Search History 4. Cookies 5. Cache Also Data: 1. Site preferences 2. Offline Website Data Which can be set to a time range of: The Last Hour or Last 2 Hours or Last 4 Hours or Today or Everything (NOT RECOMMENDED this as will lead to a lot of work restoring your system i.e., = reset to browser factory settings!). (Click on the "History" tab at the top of the screen, then "Clear Recent History " to get to the screen described above and select your options.) Marv |

![]() Brave Browser? Sounds interesting. I'm still liking Firefox, but I'm certainly open to checking out other browsers, so I'll be sure to keep that in mind. marveagle, I did not know about that. Granted I'm still fairly new with Firefox. I'm definitely interesting in checking that out, thanks for the info |

![]() and I was getting a warning. I cleared out the recycle bin, the documents and downloads folders and still it was over 90% full. I even made the page file the minimum size and still no relief. I found this app called space sniffer. I ran it and found nothing. Then I clicked in "run as administrator" and then I found the issue. The indexing file (windows.edb) had ballooned into 700gb+. I did some research and relocated it onto a bigger drive so it still works as it should. This computer is about 5 years old, but it works really well. I mention this in case others are experiencing what might be considered the computer wearing out. This one file may be the culprit. |

![]() Right click the Start Menu and select Control Panel. ... From the Control Panel window select Indexing Options as indicated by the larger of the two arrows. ... From the Indexing Options dialogue box , click the Advanced button. ... From the Advanced dialogue box, select Rebuild. There are 2 programs I recommend to keep a Windows PC running smoothly - CCleaner and Tweaking.com Both offer free versions which are quite good and paid versions (reasonably priced) which are even more thorough. I use both, but primarily the paid version of Tweaking.com. I run it about once a month and it keeps everything clean and efficient. |
