Team member past away
Hi Captains

Very sad that one of my team members has passed. His friend wants to finish his games out of respect. Does anyone know what GKs policy is if someone dies and has some active team games?

Thanks
Darren

I don't know, Darren. But, I'm sorry for your loss Darren.

I don't know, either, but it seems that changing players might not be fair to the opponents of the late player.

Yes was also thinking that but would be paired with someone the same rating. Probably not possible and he will time out. We just want to finish the games in his memory

No
I hope no one has or hacked his password. But something better can be done to honor his memory than cheating. His opponents could resign out of respect for the dead. If they do not, that should be their choice--not a stilted game against them.

Saguaro is Right
His opponents cannot be compelled to resign, but they could be afforded the opportunity. This must be their choice, not the choice of the friends of our departed comrade.

Thanks for input. I wouldn't ask anyone to resign games but will inform his opponents.

I think that two of my team members have died, possibly three. They haven't been online for months. One of them I think died of the Corona virus as it was very widespread in his country. I can't bring myself to remove them from my team. I keep hoping they will reappear, have just been sick and recovered. And, of course, Jimmy, who many are aware of, who wasn't on my team but disappeared a couple of years ago. He was quite quirky, but we were fond of each other. We called each other Mum2 and Son2.

Memorial Games
If his team mates would like, they can create challenges based on starting positions of the current games, with appropriate game titles.

I don't know what the opening move limit is--I assume there is one.

Team Mates
I leave them for a year. I've had several team members stop playing for six to ten months, then start again.

I currently have one team member who has not logged on for over a year. Some time within the next few months I'll remove him, with the note that he is welcome back whenever he becomes active again.

I do something similar to Shiva. I periodically check my roster to see that all non-paying customers are currently active in at least one team game, or that they are at least AVAILABLE to be assigned a team match.

For paying teammates, I will send them a note if I discover that they don't have any team games and aren't currently available for team matches, and ask them why they are not available for team matches. Regardless of the reason, I believe them and act accordingly.

Why be on a team if you won't make yourself available? It doesn't make sense to me.

However, I am not as patient as Shiva. I don't wait for a year. I check every 3-4 months.

Just my $0.02

~Tim

PS - I have always been made aware of the imminent passing of a teammate, so I have never had the unfortunate situation of "discovering" that a teammate has passed away.
