Orange to move first right?

I propose d4. D is for Donald. 4 is more ambitious than 3.

If that wasn't reason enough, d4 keeps the Trump-ovsky on the table and also gives us a good chance to play c4 soon, creating a nice wall in the middle of the board. I see some bad hombres on the other side of the border and I suspect we'll want to keep them out.

Sorry, I had made the rule that the first team to get to four players would
make the first move.
The Obama team will be the ones to vote and make the first move.

I will be looking at all discussions, and consultation game thread to help both
if there is any confusion.

I understand the vote for orange was made in good humor, thanks.

Easy-win
True. You did say that before Stal started tossing coins. No problem.

Well, all that energy lost when I tossed the dollar coin in vain! But OK, with bassoons and trumpets sounding our team is ready.

I believe O's team is going to play d4. I would like to respond with ....Nf6 or ...d5.
stalhandske

They already played 1. d4. I would support 1. ...Nf6

REMINDER - PLEASE VOTE!
The invincible Team Trump consists of

me

We need the votes from 5imon and from fiesty

Sorry

I vote with 1....Nf6
It looks like a good move to me.

1. ...Nf6 would be a classic reply to 1. d4, and often enough leads to the various Indian defense systems.

I have often practised 1. ....e6, which is a multipurpose move that can lead to the Indian openings, but also to the French defense, and even to the Dutch defense.

We currently have
feisty-feline: 1. ...Nf6
ace-of-aces: 1. ...Nf6 or 1. ...d5
me: 1. ...Nf6
5imon
15-Nov-17, 22:53

I usually play 1...Nf6 here too, although equally happy with 1...d5.

I suppose 1...f5 would be the closest we can get to a Trump-themed Orange but I'm not at all convinced about it as an opening.

Let's play 1...Nf6
stalhandske
15-Nov-17, 23:16

1. ...f5 would indeed be quite interesting (the Dutch defense), and I could easily be persuaded to have us play that instead of the very conventional (and boring) 1. ...Nf6

We currently have

feisty-feline: 1. ...Nf6
ace-of-aces: 1. ...Nf6 or 1. ...d5
5imon: 1. ...Nf6 or 1. ...d5
me: 1. ...Nf6 or 1. ...f5

We have votes from all. Do you wish to have any changes? The more I think of it the more I'd like 1. ...f5 - because we are the Trump team!
5imon
15-Nov-17, 23:57

what are we trying to achieve?
A fun game which we all learn from or a game where honour is at stake and we mustn't lose?

1...f5 for the former. 1...Nf6 or 1...d5 for the latter.
stalhandske
16-Nov-17, 00:17

Excellent point, 5imon! At this time I'd go for the former

Can we then say that we have

feisty-feline: 1. ...Nf6
ace-of-aces: 1. ...Nf6 or 1. ...d5
5imon: 1. ..f5
me: 1. ...f5

Do we get further support for the Dutch?
stalhandske

Can we please have the comments by ace and feisty ASAP on this "change of minds"?
5imon

We could perhaps give them a few hours, given that they're in the US and probably asleep
feisty-feline

vote 1....Nf6
I like to win so I'll stay with my vote
ace-of-aces

vote 1...Nf6.
I am familiar with this move and I prefer to have this move.
5imon
16-Nov-17, 10:09

Ok. Let's go with Nf6.

I guess a good reason to avoid the Dutch is that BC and Ipsi recently played it in the club, so will both be very familiar with it.

OK with me, too! (But a pity  )

Well, we know that Martin is obsessed by the Torre attack
en.wikipedia.org

Do we want to accept the challenge or make sure that we go into a different line? c5 would perhaps give them something to think about?
stalhandske
20-Nov-17, 00:35

5imon
You are right about the Torre. On the other hand, 2. ...c5 leads to modern Benoni positions, or the like (right?), which is elyhim's speciality. Yet, elyhim likes to play it as black.
I am willing to switch from 2. ...e6 to 2. ...c5.
stalhandske
20-Nov-17, 00:41

5imon
Although, I am not sure elyhim is member of the O team!
5imon
20-Nov-17, 00:52

Their team should be ipsissimus, brigadecommander, lord_shiva and dmaestro, I think.

Let's see what the others think about 2...c5. It would certainly mix it up a bit.

It would also be amusing to have our Executive Order of 1...Nf6 ruled illegal by a Hawaiian judge and have to move it back again with 2...Ng8. That would be the most Trump-like outcome.
