Thomas Jefferson
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." ~Thomas Jefferson

His prediction came true but I don't see how his solution makes sense.

Democracy means power to the folk.
We elect delegates which exercise the might in the name of the citizens during a given time, after which they can be changed.
But to exercise an effective might, you have to make laws and have the means to apply them.
Money is one of the essential means.
If you do not control the money, you're very limited in possibilities.
So that the power is, at least partly in the hand of those who have the financial might. In our modern capitalistic societies, those people are not elected.
Therefore, the people that we elect have less power and the folk as well.

This money control from the banks (and as consequence of the richest people who indirectly control the banks) has 2 origins :
1. The central banks which make the money are private
2. The considerable debt of the states (if dollar wasn't the devise used in the international trades, the US state would be in bankrupt).
The financial oligarchy have acquired the power that the citizens lost.

I am convinced that those considerable state debts have been encouraged if not organised by this oligarchy.

The states should control the money, as it's been the case during a long time.

Bravo! I am deeply impressed!

Yes they are private , in the shadows. Most people do not even know they exist at all. The few that do know that they exist; many of those people are completely ignorant of their function or the power they have. To say they are just a bank is an understatement.

also the very few people who know they exist and also know the power they wield, still have no clue at all as to , who they are... you know the who, why what when and how of things.

The real problem is our current system is unsustainable, unless they carefully balance society ( monitor, add and subtract) to allow that system to remain viable over the long haul. That gives them almost ultimate power.

I liken it to this analogy ....

They are a symbiotic parasite that will kill its host if left unknown or unattended. But what is worse than that is, they are a parasite that will kill its host on purpose if we attempt to remove it at all.

(Host) being every human under their spear of influence.

Synopsis ... in my mind the only way forward is education of the masses as to who they are, what they do, and why they do it. But for the aforementioned reasons of ignorance. this may be almost impossible.

However we have to start somewhere. Also I would add that the law .... especially the golden rule.... he who has the gold makes the rules. Would be their greatest shield and war hammer!

If love is not brought to bear on them and with that love and compassion for those people is not brought to bear nothing will change.

How this can be done, I do not have the answer too

I'm sorry but I can't read these long replies. That's the nature of writing, which effective communicators understand instinctively. You have to intrigue someone first. Make them care about your way of speaking or thinking.

I asked a simple question. It might not have a simple answer. But if it takes that much text for you to communicate the answer, then I'm afraid it must not be a very good answer.

My apologies.

My intention was to demonstrate my point. To sum up :

We are in the hands of a bunch of ultra-rich people.

So that democracy is a rattle !

Yes this is basically the prediction of TJ that came true.

My question is about the "The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." part of his comment. This doesn't make any sense. It seems to be just rhetoric to me.

So am I to extrapolate from your query, that you believe something other than the people should issuing the currency, that is used by the people?

issuing power being possessed by the people doesn't even make sense.

I do not think he meant directly, we elect officials that are answerable to the people. They run the vehicle that issues the currency.

This is not being done, our officials are not public servants. They are servants of the oligarchy and that oligarchy issues the currency!

it is written... The borrower is slave to the lender.

I'm not aware of any system where this doesn't become the case though.

I for example, for all my hatred of the corporatocracy, would do exactly what said corporations do if I was in charge of one. Happily.
