Christmas
Not long to go now so lets see if we can get a festive thread going!

How about;

Best ever Christmas song

Worst ever Christmas song

for starters, i guess we could also include plans for the festive season, & things we hope avoid this festive season.

My favourite is a song called "Oi Jouluyö" in finnish. "O holy night" in english, I believe. Written by Adolphe Adam. When this song is performed by a singer with really strong voice and some opera background it's really amazing.

King Diamond's "No presents for christmas" is also great.

There are some really good and also horrible christmas songs, but since I'm not exactly sure if they are finnish songs or internationally known, I won't post them here.

Christmas
One of my Favourites is Nat King Cole singing Silent Night, Bing Crosby singing Little Drummer Boy of the modern era Fairytale of New York Kirsty Mcall & the Pogues is a classic in my opinion.

You are right about some horrible songs sirtgl Ronan Keatings version of Fairy Tale is awful ( mind you his version of anything is pretty bad!).

As for plans over the festive period we have a large family gathering on Christmas i will be chief chef! most of the family will be staying over on Christmas eve although some will have to sleep at my daughters house just down the road.

This is our christmas tradition:

On the morning of christmas eve, or the night before we go to my wife's parents' house, where also my sister-in-law will come with her son and husband. On christmas eve morning we eat rice porridge, with one almond in the pot. Who ever gets the almond will have some extra luck for the next year. Then we decorate the tree.

Later, we start preparing the dinner. The 6 kg ham, which we eat instead of turkey, has already been prepared on the previous night. During the day we will go out, have fun in the snow (if there is any), and take candles to our dead relatives' graves.

Before the dinner we go to sauna. This is one of the most important traditions. Then we eat until we cannot move.

After we have eaten, we most likely will go to the living room and wait for Santa Claus to come and give us presents. (If you still think Santa lives on north pole, check again. He lives here in Finland, in Korvatunturi, in north-eastern Lapland.)

After we have opened the presents, we just spend time together, play games etc. Many finns prefer to get drunk at this time, but that's not part of my plans.

I have just learned
That a headteacher in a school in the uk has banned the children in her school from using the word Christmas until Dec the 7th! Crazy or what, it also appears that some councils are banning nativity scenes & plays in case it offends the non christians in their populations!

Lets hope that the new Ugandan archbishop of York can get his message across that we should not stop celebrating our beliefs just because someone who believes something different is offended!

best and worst
Lots of great ones, but my favorite without question is "O Holy Night."
And the worst, the all-time, all-time worst!!!! is Neil Diamond's horribly
whiny version of "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas." (And I'm a fan of his!)
