If, as a current member, you want to welcome the new member, please do so via a private message or a game challenge - please do not do so in this thread itself. Hopefully this will keep the thread streamlined and make it easy for new members to peruse, in order to learn about their fellow club members.

I live in Northwest Indiana, but I'm originally from Tennessee in fact the family still owns the farm on baseline road! I've been playing chess over 35 years, I got really involved with chess playing correspondence chess while I was in the Air Force in the early 70's . I think the Café could be the start of something beautiful.

Not to mention I'm also a social butterfly trapped in a chess-nerd's body, so of course this is the place for me! I hope to hang out and enjoy the comraderie. My name is Pixie and I have been playing chess for about 3 years. I am entirely self taught and stumbled upon Gameknot a couple of years ago while surfing the internet trying to find someone to play a game against! I am very keen to improve my game - it is generally heading in the right direction, but it is a slow process! I have learnt, the hard way, that I need to think deeply about my moves before making them. With this in mind I do try and limit the number of games I play. However, I always accept challenges with a time limit of 5 or more days. I love the idea of a group of us being in a club and developing links over the coming years. It is a great idea and the potential for development seem endless! I am quite a social poodle (aren't we all!) so am always ready for a chat about chess or anything else for that matter! The Poodle.

I first started playing "serious" chess in the early 70s with the "Fischer boom" - have been enjoying otb and correspondence tournaments ever since, though I no longer play very well. I'm a professor of American literature, very happily married, four kids and four grandkids. Other hobbies include golf, hiking and backpacking, wine and good food. Carpe diem!
dharmapunk 04-Apr-05, 06:05	Re-introduction Since I was asked so nicely I'll repost my introduction in the proper thread. I'm 27 and I've been playing chess for 11 years but only really started studying the game the past two years. I'm about an average player but I don't have much skill with tactics. I've been going over "lessons" with chessmaster 9000 and have improved a little. That and I'm working on endgames. I'm one of the lower rated players, but that's good because I like playing tougher opponents and seeing how they set up traps. I think it's worth a few rating points for a free lesson. The club seems pretty great so far. dharmapunk

Anyway ive played chess as a serious hobbie for some 10 years on and off , always believed in studying and it always payed off ( though i deliverly stop playing and studying from time to time, because chess in my opinion can be used as an alianation tool if one is not carefull ) . Now im in one of my comebacks and im sensing im on the brink of another quality jump in the game. I love analysing games whith others but i find is a rare breed the kind that likes taking time out and analyse seriously between amateurs. Hope ill find some of those in here. regards
