Let's Start
A very good way to improve is by concentrating on the positions and looking at the entire board. I know, from experience, how difficult this can be. But, it's always important to look at all of the possibilities because one might think to themselves, Alright, if I move here, I win a piece. Sometimes, that's true, but then there are threats that we miss like mating, or that if one takes, it loses something worth more. So, it's better to think, hm, what happens if I play this, and how will he or she respond. A lot of times, the important factor is counting. You want to see how many pieces are attacking V. how many pieces his or her pieces are attacking, and how many defenders that player has. If what you have is more, it's worth going for it. But, if, however, it's the same or less, it's better to hold off and think about how to defend your position, first.
