![]() Hope this club can be of help to you in the upcoming months.Sometimes reading about chess theory and picking apart where your areas of weakness's lie,may seem boring to some players, but in the end,if you read over some of the posts in this club and begin to APPLY them, you may indeed see an improvement in your chess strength. There is much more to chess and GK than simply playing games and tournaments. Many chess players want "action" and think that "play, play, play"is the only way to improve.Answer:No,incorrect.Taking a step back, analyzing your strengths and weakness's,knowing where those areas of positional fluctuations exist and/or having a stronger player(preferably above master level)examine those areas of your game that need improvements are key.In other words, take time to slow down and smell the roses! Perhaps you may want to begin with two club posts....."How to get better at chess, guide for all levels" and "The weakest squares on the chessboard".See where you stand on those areas of thought to begin with. Good luck, and always ask questions and i'm here to be of assistance whenever I can be.During the summer months,I may not be as active to respond since I travel a bit,but be patient. ![]() I hope some of the posts/threads and members of this club(including me)will be able to help your game play out as time moves on.Always ask questions and the answers will be supplied to you as soon as possible.I'm not as active in the summer months due to travelling and other things, but I will try and get back to you as soon as time permits. darknite13 is out on medical leave from GK right now,so his strong input/diagrams will be nonexistent for a while.Jkarp is very helpful as well. And any book advise/questions is best asked to shamash, another club member. My personal book advise is geared more for the expert to senior master level, but I have a few suggestions that have helped the lesser rated as listed in the book post/thread as hogfysshe pointed out in that thread. Good luck and see you around in the club! Joe,alias...(WB) founder/moderator of this club |

![]() I am not a full mentor or instructor as a one on one coach would do,but kind of a "guide" to point you in the right direction with a bit of detail followup explanations into the deeper areas of chess that many of the novice to intermediate players do not fully understand or have general misconceptions about. Its then up to you to try and piece the puzzle together! Good luck! Joe(WB) |

![]() Lots of posts and conversations in this club already, even though the club is relatively new.I have transferred much info from a previous club I had, however.Hope the members and myself can help your game out in time.As far as i'm concerned, you are already an above average player so you are doing pretty good. The word "average"to me means an average strength player across the USA that plays, maybe has read a few chess books once in a while, plays some OTB and correp.,but has not really delved into the deeper sides of chess and has no actual chess instruction or mentor over the years. The "number"associated with what I deem "average"is approx 1400-1500,and perhaps a bit higher around more "metropolis" zones where there is more chess activity, chess clubs and elevated chess social gatherings that keep a player that lives in those areas more active in chess...thus a bit higher in rating many times,at least theoretically. I've seen the rating numbers through various sources including the USCF,and believe it or not, geographic location does have an influence on your chess game strength! So,you are doing fine,in my book!Lets see if we can improve that number a bit! WB |
