oh, meant "b4" not d4 in my post several posts up as a possible move 17.

Nobody voted for Rb1. If you want to play b4 you might as well play b3 Na5 b4 Nc4 because then it will be our move in the same position as b4.
hogfysshe
02-Jul-14, 18:49

what, I count NO votes for Rb1.

four people have voted and cplusplus will hopefully cast a vote, soon (he posted but did not vote). am I missing a sixth voter?

but yes, it is 2 to 2 at the moment. ...unless I'm missing something.

02-Jul-14, 18:53

oh, sorry again. no one mentioned 6 votes but rather 5 which should be 4, two for 16.Nfd4 and two for 16.b4.

It looks like it doesn't matter
no matter what we do we are fairly screwed. So vote your heart.

I'm going to vote for Nfd4 again
hogfysshe
04-Jul-14, 04:05

me too. I vote 16.Nfd4 again (so is that 4 to 2?).

Yes, that is.

Let me know guys if 16. Nfd4 is what you want me to play against for sure.I'm just not sure if I should move yet.Playing club games is new to me too,(except OTB) where their is no clock.

04-Jul-14, 08:36

re-vote please
to make sure everyone's vote is counted correctly, please cast your vote again. And note, each player gets one vote. A player can restate his vote but it will still only be counted once. If you have changed your vote, please state what your new vote is.

I vote 16.Nfd4

Yes,no rush, lets see what the revote brings. In the case of a deadlock tie,I am going to pick a secret letter of the alphabet.I need a letter to be volunteered by all the voters than differ from the other one.If 2 players vote for the same move,I need only one letter from both of those guys. The one who comes closest to my secret letter(and I will be honest, trust me!) gets the move vote.

If you guys have a better idea, let me know.

My vote is 16.b4. Normally, I'd vote 16.Nfd4, but there's something that I don't like after the half pin. In my mind, it's worse because after a few moves, we wind up losing a pawn, which is something that I don't want.

04-Jul-14, 20:19

I'm sticking
Nfd4. I'll go with b3 but not b4
baddeeds
04-Jul-14, 20:38

In which case, I change my vote to 16.b3
saintinsanity
04-Jul-14, 20:45

I'll change to b3 then
hogfysshe
05-Jul-14, 05:15

ok, 3 out of 4 or 5 have revoted
hogfysshe revotes - 16.Nfd4
jkarp revotes - 16.b3
pawntificator revotes - 16.b3

awaiting lesplay's revote.

cplusplus agreed with pawntificator that b3 may have an advantage over b4 but did not vote (b3 not necessarily being his preference over other possibilities).

I revote 16.b3.

ok great! Clear majority votes 16.b3.
We can move ahead. Black to move.

05-Jul-14, 16:43

Ok then.

16. b3,Na5

Hmmm...my Knight is on an edgefile.Usually, this reduces the value of that Knight.Wonder if it really is less valuable in this game?Only the shadow knows, but he won't tell anyway!

I'm not sure what the best move is here. But, I know that we're in some trouble, especially because the b pawn is hanging. With this, I think that the best move is to bring one of our N's to d4. Normally, I would like b4 the best, but the problem is that we have to look for ...Nb3 Anyway, not an official, but just what I think a good move for us to play would be.
saintinsanity
06-Jul-14, 13:46

i vote b4
We had to pay Nd4 last move, now it just loses a pawn. Now b4 is needed. Nb3 isn't a big worry.
baddeeds
06-Jul-14, 13:51

I'm glad you said because, what we call HW. I have to agree that in the next 3 moves, we would lose a pawn, after a variety of exchanges. If we placed a N on d4, the position would look something like this.
So, for this reason, I agree, this time, that b4 is, in fact, our best move. And, that it's not worth calling black's next move a fork, as we can do something about it, so it won't cause us any difficulties. At least, I don't think so.
tough_customer
06-Jul-14, 14:54

I vote b4, because I think its a necessary move.
baddeeds
06-Jul-14, 14:57

So, between us 3, b4 is a unanimous vote.
hogfysshe
06-Jul-14, 18:13

I also vote 17.b4 as part of the sequence discussed previously.
wrecking_ball
06-Jul-14, 18:36

Ok.I see pawntificator vote 17.b4 as well as Jkarp, lesplay and hogfysshe vote 17.b4

So be it:

17. b4,Nc4

Nah....Nb3 seems to passive to me and probably will get me trapped,so will not do that(good try though!),but I have something else in mind a bit better me thinks.

I think that best would probably be 18.h3 It might not look so serious, but thinking and planning ahead, it appears that black's intention is to force an exchange. By this, I allude to exchange the F N for his B. The idea behind it is that when we exchange, K safety will be concern. And, this time we will have a weakness that black just might be able to exploit and even attack. So, we have to think about the possiblility of a K exposure. For this reason 18.h3 would prevent that as now, we prevent black from playing 18...Bg4

I second the motion regarding 18.h3
Sound reasoning. Sound move.
