Ruy Lopez Opening
Setting up a shingle here for young and old, experienced and beginners, to partake of the Tipsy's wine, and also his (very limited) knowledge of how to employ this opening as White to beat your opponent time and time again.

Ruy Lopez
Is my main preference with White. There are a variety of ways to meet it for Black, the most solid of which I think are the Berlin Defense, the Petroff (very very drawish opening), the French and the Pirc.

The Ruy Lopez is my favorite. That was the first opening I learned from Mr. Arboite at OTB Chess Club. And, it happened, just before I learned how to counter the Sicilian Defense which goes to the Open Variations.

I usually play d4 or nf3 as white now .I might have to try e4 again in a couple of games .It is a good opening though.

I might go back to 1.Nf3 It is worth noting that the only reason I stopped playing it is because when I did Jack said that 1.Nf3?! was inaccurate because the first move isn't analyzed by masters or GM's. In it he said that the reason it isn't is because playing Nf3 prevents you from controlling (destroys) the center. So, I should play moves analyzed by masters and grandmasters. But, tactical-abyss verified that it is wrong. And, I now know that it's a well known opening called the Reti Opening.
