Annotations 2
We are up to 10 pages on the first one. And, annotations are big since that thread's been filling up. Plus, I post annotations from a student, as well as, Eric. Not only that, but the thread started with annotations from charleshiggie. So, when we max out on post from that thread, we have this new one to continue the annotated games.
|
|
Ok, since we maxed out on for the first thread, I'll be continuing annotations right here. In the near future, I will have a brand new annotation. It might even be by tomorrow. And, I am hoping that later in the week, I have 2 to post here. But, that depends on how much time I have.

Ok, here's a new one. This is similar to what I continued with clashofpawns thread, as this is an OTB tournament, and the first to it's kind that I'm annotating. I do this in order to enable archduke_piccolo to, "review the score", as Sasha posted. I didn't do this before when I was giving a major handicap to some players that aren't there anymore or playing tournament games. So, I was only given, at times, 15 or 20 minutes against their 50 or 55, which wasn't enough time to notate. But, with the weaker players not playing, given that 3 left, and won't play tournament games, there's only 3 players of equal strength, so everyone gets 50 minutes which is, most certainly, enough time for me to annotate. So, this was my second game in this new tournament, and with a mistake, I lost a won position. But, I'm pretty certain that I would've lost on time, anyhow, due to the miscalculation. This is how it went down. gameknot.com

I just started commenting on that. It might take me several days before I can finish commenting on it. But, I just pm'd IM cami3 on chess.com. If she's interested in this, I'll start forwarding various annotations to her, starting with your most recent annotation that you posted earlier because, due to how good of an annotator you are. And, I'll be forwarding whatever comments she adds to the annotation. If this happens, it would start, right after, I finish commenting on your recent annotation.

Thanks Joe, very kind of you.

It happened quicker then I thought. Haven't had time to present anything to the IM. I didn't get a response yet, but I'll probably start with the shortest game to her in 8 moves, to Camelia on Saturday since time is very limited, right now. But, I really enjoyed both games, Charles.

Thanks Joe!
Thanks Joe, I hope she likes them too

A Barroom Brawl
A new annotation from me, played in Charles Higgie's Commonwealth Games Mini-T. gameknot.com I am planning a series with two more games, both of which you might find entertaining.

I've commented on all of Charles annotations and ION's recent annotation, as well.

Many thanks Joe
Many thanks Joe, I hope you enjoyed them Charles

I enjoyed both of them. Although ION commented on this, I'm gonna post this annotation from the second tournament here. gameknot.com I was thinking about what to do because on the other site, I would've had to rewrite the entire annotation. But, I decided to message this entire thread to Camelia, and forwarded it to her e-mail by sending the copy. As the annotations that I was going to show her, one at a time, are all here. And, there's even more here, when you include my annotations.

Talking about which, I just annotated my recent tournament game against Tom Walsh. gameknot.com Interestingly, I just wasn't used to notating OTB Tournament games since the one above was, as explained, the first of it's kind. But, after that, game Carl speculated the same thing that Tom Levine told me. As he thought that I went wrong by notating the game, in the first place. That was, since my time ran low which was when I rushed and lost. However, I wasn't going to stop, and without the notation, it's not even I think, but I can say for sure, that I would've lost between 10-20 minutes, and it would've been more like in 10 or 15 minutes, as that's what happened in my first tournament game with this opponent, as well as, other past tournament games. But, I adjusted to taking notes even sooner then I thought. In fact, for the first time in a long while, I was able to time him out. Jack was proud of me, and when I mentioned that taking notes made the difference, Carl's jaw dropped. Yes, he was in shock, but I knew that this was going to really slow down my pace and give ION the opportunity to review the score with me.

Second instalment -
Here is the second of my projected 3-game annotated series from id-charleshiggie's Commonwealth Games Mini-T. This one was as different from the janakalianaara game could be imagined. But it does contain a positional piece sacrifice to establish a bind that kept Black constrained until my assault columns were ready. gameknot.com

I just started commenting on your annotation, ION. I'll have to continue tomorrow. In the meantime, even if we don't get comments from Camelia, I spoke with Master Nathan A Resika yesterday. Nathan is high rated master. At the time, I thought he was, about, easy19's strength, but his Fide Rating is about 160 points higher, if you go by his highest rating. After speaking to him, Nathan said that he'd be happy to comment on various annotations. I'll start with some of my tournament games, that he missed. Then, I'll show him this thread, and as I said with the other, I'll copy and paste any comments that he has to add. This will start right after I finish commenting on your annotation, ION.

I would appreciate
I would appreciate him having a look over my annotations...

As would I...
.... and I would welcome any comments he would have to make. I always appreciate feedback on the games I have annotated.

I'll start tomorrow. But, I have finished commenting on ION's annotation, just now.

I just annotated my recent tournament game which turns out be the Semi Finals. gameknot.com Next week will be the finale since I lost this game which puts me in 3rd place, with a final score of 1-4 for this tournament. Now, ION asked me if the time control was just for 40 moves or the entire game in the last tournament game which was also my most recent annotation. It's for the entire game, which why I posted all in all for the time control.
|
|
OK...
... How long for the game? I am reminded of the 40-40 'quick play' tournaments that used to be run Upper Hutt, a place not far north of Wellington. I played in 4 of those between 1976 and 1981, though I have since lost my tournament booklets. I could have played in one of the lower grade groupings but entered for the top tournament group where I think I scored about 9 or 10 out of 20 over the 4 tournaments. Good place to pit against Master and Candidate Master level opponents. 40-40 meant a 40-minute time control for the whole game, and NOT 40 minutes for 40 moves! In club tournaments the usual time control was 36 moves in 90 minutes, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game. Great for developing one's end game technique, I don't think! Most open tournaments in this country went 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour per 20 moves thereafter. That was 30 years ago. How they work now, I wouldn't have a clue.
|
|
This is a very good question. It's not a certain amount after a certain amount, like general tournament with 2 hours for 40 moves followed by 1 hour increments for 20 moves, or the usual club tournaments with 90 minutes for 36 moves, followed by an increment after that. It's almost identical to the 40-40. So, it's a 50-50 time control.
|
|
I'll also add that the time isn't set when Tom and Carl play each other. Contrary to me, they don't agree that slowing down is key, and their tournament games end with so much time left on the clock that Jack feels that they don't need it. But, with my notations and taking more time to concentrate, I, on the other hand, need the clock. In the meantime, here's another annotation. gameknot.com I had nothing to do with the annotation. Instead, GM Shimanov annotated it. It happened when, for the first time in a long while, I went on Susan Polgar's blogspot to see any updates on the Carlsen and Caruana game. When I first blocked a certain character the one thing I was still obsessed was looking at professional annotations. Well, I, once in a while, saw that on her site which is when I became a fan of Susan. The first and third annotations there involved Magnus Carlsen, during his first year of being a world champion. Upon looking for that, I came across this annotation. Once again, I copied and pasted it onto this site.

I started commenting on your game, Jeremy. Maybe, I'll be able to continue tomorrow or late in the week. In the meantime, one of my students, Erika, has annotated a recent game. gameknot.com I am thankful to those have taken time to comment. I actually mentioned about this in the same forum where I posted about the Fide V Elo Rating. Shortly afterwards, I mentioned about the Fen notation. I decided to start using it to teach her chess.
|
|
I told this to Erika as well, but this is for everyonelse except for, possibly, Jeremy since I started commenting on his annotation. But, I will not have time to comment in anyonelse's annotation until the World Championship Tournament is completed. This is also why I, regretfully, had to even cancel a coaching game challenge, where I'd be coached. Just wasn't enough time, instead, I'm using to copy and paste Susan Polgar's annotations of the World Championship tournament games which for me, takes precedence over anything else since it's learning from the 2 best players in the world.
|
|
When that's done, things go back to normal. The only thing now is that I'll post Erika's annotation here, but otherwise, you'll Susan's annotation in the Carlsen Caurana 2018 tournament sticky thread.

Ok, I'll get to it. I might start tonight. I did say when the World Championship tournament was finished. But, when I posted that, I was working out. Things changed for the time being, since I caught a cold. So, not working out gives me a little more time, but I'm still taking it extremely easy with the games for that reason. I know that one will start, but I'll begin working on your annotation, in the near future, so during some pauses with the Carlsen and Caruana games.
