It's fun to calculate the percentage of the Sun's emitted energy that actually impacts Earth --- I believe it's around 3 x 10 ^ -10% Gives one a picture of how big that boom was.

Our sun is larger than most other stars, true stars, but yes--our sun is dwarfed by some of the truly giant stars. Look up at out moon, 240,000 miles away, and realize if the Earth was at the center of the sun it would easily engulf the entire lunar orbit. At closer to 100,000,000 miles from us, there are stars that engulf Earth's entire orbit around the sun.
