epstein autopsy
broken bones in neck, indicative of homicide

One of the breaks was to Epstein’s hyoid bone, an injury that experts told the Washington Post is more common in homicide victims.

The discoveries were disclosed to the paper by two people familiar with the findings of the autopsy, which was completed on Sunday, but warranted more information by the Medical Examiner’s Office before it makes a final cause-of-death ruling.

I think it is completely unnecessary to speculate here about homicide. The way Epstein was found plus the injuries should quite clearly indicate what happened.

Hyoid bone fracture is typical of strangulation - all depends on exactly where the force was excecuted.

True that.

A properly applied rear naked choke would break no bones in the neck. It just cuts blood supply (and oxygen) to the brain. Hold it long enough and the inevitable happens.   But a guillotine choke or 'rapist choke' could damage the hyoid bone.

Epstein was murdered and if we are lucky that won't save his blackmail victims from prosecution.

<Epstein was murdered>

A statement without backing. Typical in this club.
If he actually was murdered, what does that tell about the American justice system? Which, apart from the place he was jailed also includes the authorities that carried out the autopsy.

You're, by far, the most qualified in this club about the subject.

How accurate is an autopsy to determine if someone has been hanged or has hanged himself (assuming that, if he has been murdered, it's been done by specialists who did everything they could to hide it) ?

No I don't wish to assist. Just for them to produce the body. If he hung himself, it is possible the findings would mimic strangulation. Perhaps he had been informed by his lawyers on exactly what they took via the multiple search warrants that were executed

Not really, I was never very keen on forensic pathology/medicine.

By the way, did you know this comparison of the main disciplines of medicine:

Internal medicine: they know everything but cannot do anything
Surgery: They know nothing but can do anything
Psychiatry: They know nothing and can do nothing
Pathology: They know everything and can do everything,
but then it is too late

I would say that the difference is very very small, statistically speaking. All depends on precisely the method, the used "hardware" etc.

What is much more important is the records from the prison, the guards on watch, the stgate of the cell, etc. I really think that in an American prison it should be easily determined what happened.
