to BOLD-ly not go, where nobody goes anymore
I'm talking about all of the stickied/stuck topics in bold - at the top of the forum - that have gone stale.

call me Felix Unger. but there are only three mods in this club. could someone please vacuum and dust from time to time.

three quarters of those topics stuck to the top of the forum can be unstuck. eight have had no comments in more than a month. and several have had no action in two or three months.

ia little routine maintenance please.

same goes for another club, than I'm not even a member of. just gives the impression that no one gives a hoot...

watching that video, I think Felix and
Sheldon Cooper have a little in common...

:)
I leave the ones I feel deserve play, but your complaint is duly noted and I will take a look.

Agree.
Whats the reason or justification for making them bold in the first place, other than getting their privileged front of the line placement? A simple solution would be to not bold them in the first place.

UPPER vs lower case
I have no issues with either, but there are times when I definitely prefer UPPER case for the forum heading because it stands-out better and it's easier to find in the extensive forum list (see trump vs tRUMP for example).

Jon
UPPER and/or lower case have nothing to do with position in the forum list --- that is entirely a matter of activity ( see the MERRY CHRISTMAS forums that were installed in numerous clubs).
hogfysshe

not talking about upper vs lower case. this is about "stickied" threads. when you "stick" a topic to the top portion of the forum (something only the mods can do or undo), it is STUCK there, at the top.

not that I don't have the Christmas spirit in April and July, but I'd say let's not over do.

when more and more "stickied"/"stuck" topics build up at the top of the forum, it makes it hard to find the actual active topics, ...which may be down at the bottom of a dozen or more INACTIVE topics, ...INACTIVE and yet still STUCK to the top.

if a stuck topic is active, then fine. the bold, and the position at the top, give important topics visibility. Club Rules should also be "stuck" to the top, even though they don't see much regular action, ...so they remain visible and easy to access for members. but once a hot topic stops seeing activity, it should be "unstuck" or else becomes clutter. if it becomes active again, and is still important, it can always be re-stuck.

bro
bro. Agree that case does not effect placement. Bold does! The bold threads are listed before any non bold threads.
hogfysshe

and the boldness is caused by a moderator choosing to "sticky" the topic. they have that option in the "thread options" at the top of every topic. regular members who are not mods do not have this option. in addition to bold, the topic is stuck to the top of the forum. and all stuck topic stay above normal topics. so, hypothetically, there can be 50 or 100 inactive topics above actually active topics. no reason to have to scroll past a bunch of inactive old discussions to get to active topics.

it's standard forum maintenance to un-stick inactive topics that had been stuck to the top sometime in the past.

HOG and all others

Please show me a single instance in the gameknot forums that have been made "STICKY" by a monitor.

STICKY is a right of the founder only, isn't it.?

A moderator can stick or unstick anything. I agree with Todd , the more stickies a club has the less important they become especially if someone hasn't posted in it for 3+months

Sticky , the final frontier. the procedural inaccuracies of the star ship Looney tunes. It's five year mission. To explore dead topics ad nauseum, To seek out ancient post's and ancient dead topics. To boldly stick what no man has stuck before.

Monitor or not
I still consider "sticky" applications to be valid --- especially for applications like "introductions" or "Club business", etc.

lord_shiva

Valid
Absolutely. Club Business and Intros stay at the to forever.

In addition, I want a few topics we might revisit. I unstuck “gravitons” as it was old and probably played out.

I also stuck a couple active topics. I unstuck all the Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings threads. We can reopen them next year.

great minds:

hogfysshe (6:11): "...Club Rules should also be "stuck" to the top..."

mo-one (7:31): "I...consider "sticky"...to be valid --- especially for applications like "introductions" or "Club business", etc"

LS (8:23): "Absolutely. Club Business and Intros stay at the top..."

-------------

apatzer (6:58): extra points for general support, good input, and nice extension of star trek theme

A reasonable solution. When can we expect it to be implemented

Expectations along with assumptions are the mother of all f ups and let downs

jon (9:24), completely in the hands of the three mods, mo, LS, and BC.

I think this thread has worked to help those three. the issue and technical stuff are now understood a little better. and if there's any build up, any of us can comment or DM a mod.

since we've lost people, I wanted the remaining mods to realize that they can't expect someone else to do it as much as in the past.

(fresh club is in the same boat. hopefully, the smaller mod crew will do routine maintenance over there. I'm not in that club, but I read it, ...and would rather not swim through a bunch of cobwebs.)

Stick <a few topics we might revisit>. Why pick and choose, surely a couple of hundred valid “might” revisits are out there?
lord_shiva

Revisits
Post to bump anything of interest. Once the response count gets high enough I might stick it if the topic is of current relevance. Really, Hog’s point about the dead sticky posts is relevant as it pushes active threads off the first page, which attracts less attention to them. If you’re looking at threads on a desktop it’s not too bad, but on a phone that’s a lot of valuable real estate. I haven’t tried the threads on a vertical desktop, but I doubt most users read that way. I do most of my GK work on an iPad.

Think
Jan is free to stick whatever he likes, of course, as are the moderators.

Some folks like clear kitchen counters. Others leave the mixer, blender, and other devices out. My cupboards are both too few and too full to hold all that, so even if I don’t use the mixer every week, it is big and unwieldy and there’s no reason to move it back and forth. But sometimes you need the counter space and so you have to put some things away.

So the sticky threads are like kitchen appliances. You need the Quisinart once a year when you and the missus make salsa. We should have gotten the corn earlier for this year’s crop. My bad. You need the canner in the fall, but there’s not much canning the rest of the year. Seems like a fair analogy.

Oh, I store the dehydrator on top the back room refrigerator, in a plastic bag to ward off dust. But mid summer to dry dill… Instead of buying a new dehydrator I find the thread containing the old one and bump it.

From my vantage point <the sticky threads are like> a special privilege granted to the selected few. I’ll add that to my list of reasons to leave discussion clubs or Gameknot.
