Scenes From My Favorite Movies
My favorite movie of all time (I was born in 1966) is Jaws.

And this is likely my favorite scene from that movie (I say “likely” ‘cause this movie is full of great scenes.)

In this scene, Quint and Hooper meet for the first time, and Quint, a shark fisherman, and Hooper, a rich oceanographer, size each other up. Brody, the police chief of Amity, referees:

The Indianapolis Speech
Quint’s Indianapolis speech from Jaws

One of the most memorable scenes from this movie.

Ask anyone alive in the 1970s what movie the line, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” is from and you’ll invariably get the right answer.

Great scene and the first appearance of the great white shark after Quint, Brody and Hooper set out on a boat to kill it. Brody is nonchalantly ladling chum into the water when the shark introduces himself.

Great score by John Williams (I think he won an Oscar for that score.)

The first clip is pretty much just the “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” scene.

The second clip is what happens after.

Greatest movie of all time!

One more scene from my favorite movie (Jaws from 1975) and I’ll move on to a different movie.

In this scene, Quint, Brody and Hooper attempt to drag the shark to shore after attaching lines from barrels to the boat’s stern. But the shark pulls the boat in the opposite direction, flooding the boat and putting stress on the stern.

Quint tells Brody and Hooper to cut the lines from the stern cleats or the shark will pull out the boat’s transom.

When Brody says, “We’re gonna sink aren’t we?” Quint gives him a totally insufficient hand pump and replies, “Pump it out, chief!”

Great scene from my second-favorite movie of all time: Rocky from 1976. Pretty sure it won the Oscar for Best Picture that year.

In this scene, Mickey, the trainer at a Philadelphia gym, takes away Rocky’s locker to give it to someone else and calls Rocky a “tomato.”

Ironically, when Rocky gets a shot at the title by freak luck (and because he has a great fighting nickname,) Mickey shows up at his apartment and pleads with Rocky to let him train him for the title fight. That’s an even better scene and I’ll post that next. But here’s the scene where Mickey takes away Rocky’s locker and tells him to consider retiring.

Lotta great dialogue in this scene.

“Hey yo Mike, where’s my lock? Whose stuff is this in my locker?”

“It’s Dipper’s stuff. It ain’t your locker no more.”

“What’re you talkin’ about it ain’t my locker? It’s been my locker for six years.”

“Mickey told me to bag it and hang it.”

“You put my stuff on skid row? I been in that locker for six years and you put my stuff in a bag on skid row?”

“Mickey tells me what to do, I gotta do it. Right, Rock?”

“Where is he?”

“He’s outside workin’ with Dipper. He’s in a bad mood.”

“So am I.”

Not a scene from a movie, but scenes from an NYPD Blue episode in which detectives investigating the murder of a young child question a homeless man who’s mute and wants to communicate with them through the Holy Bible.

This episode aired in two parts - Lost Israel I and Lost Israel II. Check those episodes out if you have Hulu or another service that has NYPD Blue episodes. Fantastic acting and great TV!

Great scene in a hilarious movie.

“Greg, how come you don’t like cats?”

“I don’t not like cats. I just, I just, I just prefer dogs. I mean, I’m just more of a dog kind of, you know. You come home, they’re wagging their little tails, happy to see you.”

“You need that assurance, do you? You prefer an emotionally shallow animal? You see, Greg, when you yell at a dog, his tail will go between his legs and cover his genitals, his ears will go down. A dog is very easy to break. But cats make you work for their affection. They don’t sell out the way dogs do.”

“Huh.” <<The look on Greg’s face here is hilarious 😂 >>

“Are you a pothead, Focker?” 😂

Great scene from “Doubt” in which Meryl Streep, who plays a nun, not-so-subtly accuses a priest, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, of molesting an altar boy. Amy Adams plays a younger nun who tries to serve as a mediator between them.

Great acting.

Another great (and shorter) clip from “Doubt” in which the nun played by Meryl Streep is much more direct in accusing the priest played by Philip Seymour Hoffman of molesting an altar boy.

Great acting.
