Great Quotes
Starting this thread with three from the great scientist Isaac Newton:

“Atheism is so senseless. When I look at the solar system, I see the earth at the right distance from the sun to receive the proper amounts of heat and light. This did not happen by chance.”

“He who thinks half-heartedly will not believe in God; but he who really thinks has to believe in God.”

“Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who sets the planets in motion.”

(Yes, I’m aware Newton didn’t believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, but I also know, from what I’ve read, that he was into alchemy and the occult, and, imo, the latter is a gateway to the demonic.)

“Astronomers now find they have painted themselves into a corner because they have proven, by their own methods, that the world began abruptly in an act of creation to which you can trace the seeds of every star, every planet, every living thing in this cosmos and on the earth. And they have found that all this happened as a product of forces they cannot hope to discover…. That there are what I or anyone would call supernatural forces at work is now, I think, a scientifically proven fact.”

–Robert Jastrow, the astronomer and physicist who founded NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies, as cited in his book God and the Astronomers.

“I believe that the more thoroughly science is studied, the further does it take us from anything comparable to atheism.”

“If you study science deep enough and long enough, it will force you to believe in God.”

—Lord William Kelvin, who was noted for his theoretical work on thermodynamics, the concept of absolute zero and the Kelvin temperature scale based upon it. Kelvin was a devout Christian.

“I think only an idiot can be an atheist. We must admit that there exists an incomprehensible power or force with limitless foresight and knowledge that started the whole universe going in the first place.”

—Christian Anfinsen, winner of the 1972 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on ribonuclease.

“Essentially, I realized that to stay an atheist, I would have to believe that nothing produces everything; non-life produces life; randomness produces fine-tuning; chaos produces information; unconsciousness produces consciousness; and non-reason produces reason. Those leaps of faith were simply too big for me to take, especially in light of the affirmative case for God’s existence … In other words, in my assessment the Christian worldview accounted for the totality of the evidence much better than the atheistic worldview.”

Lee Strobel, former atheist and the author of “The Case for Christ: A Journalist's Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus.”

"The facts must mold the theories, not the theories the facts . . I am most critical of my biologist friends in this matter. Try telling a biologist that, impartially judged among other accepted theories of science, such as the theory of relativity, it seems to you that the theory of natural selection has a very uncertain, hypothetical status, and watch his reaction. I'll bet you that he gets red in the face. This is `religion,' not `science,' with him." Burton, "The Human Side of the Physiologist: Prejudice and Poetry," Physiologist 2 (1957).

“No human spirit that is not united to God can be saved. Those who are Far from Thee shall perish – they shall be lost, undone, ruined; and that without remedy. Being separated from God by sin, they shall never be rejoined; the great gulf must be between them and their Maker eternally.”

Adam Clarke, a British Methodist theologian and biblical scholar.

This quote is both great (in its Truth) and sad (for those who will be lost, undone and ruined by their own choice.)

And even sadder still is Clarke’s commentary on the meaning of the word “perish.”

“The term perish is generally used to signify a coming to nothing, being annihilated; and by some it is thus applied to the finally impenitent, they shall all be annihilated. But where is this to be found in the Scriptures? In no part, properly understood. In the new heavens and the new earth none of the wicked shall be found; for therein dwells righteousness-nothing but God and righteous spirits; but at the same time the wicked shall be in their own place. And to suppose that they shall be annihilated, is as great a heresy, though scarcely so absurd, as to believe that the pains of damnation are emendatory, and that hell-fire shall burn out. There is presumptive evidence from Scripture to lead us to the conclusion, that if there be not eternal punishment, glory will not be eternal; as the same terms are used to express the duration of both.”

The above commentary rejects the doctrine of annihilationism, which I think is rejected by most Bible scholars and enthusiasts.

“I myself am convinced that the theory of evolution, especially the extent to which it’s been applied, will be one of the great jokes in the history books of the future. Posterity will marvel that so very flimsy and dubious an hypothesis could be accepted with the incredible credulity that it has.”

Malcolm Muggeridge, English journalist and satirist

"Every history of the twentieth century lists three thinkers as preeminent in influence: Darwin, Marx and Freud. All three were regarded as 'scientific' (and hence far more reliable than anything 'religious') in their heyday.

Yet Marx and Freud have fallen, and even their dwindling bands of followers no longer claim that their insights were based on any methodology remotely comparable to that of experimental science. I am convinced that Darwin is next on the block. His fall will be by far the mightiest of the three"

Phillip E. Johnson, a UC Berkeley law professor, co-founder of the intelligent design movement and co-founder of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture.

“I feel that my calling is to speak to young people and demonstrate to them that it’s not a sissy thing to be a Christian,” Paul would say in his many speeches around the world. “Yes, it’s a great thing to be an Olympic champion and called the strongest man in the world, but the greatest thrill in my life is being a Christian. Having the opportunity to stand up and do this for Jesus Christ.”

“If the strongest man in the world can’t get through one day without the power of Jesus Christ, where does that leave you?” Paul would say. “God giving his Son is the greatest thing that ever happened in the universe. He lives in my heart and it is the greatest thing in my life and I want to share it.”

Paul Anderson, Olympic weightlifting champion, world’s strongest man

I include this quote because it shows how appallingly ignorant scientists can be when they try to discuss religion.

“There is a celebrated story in the Western tradition like this, except that not quite everything was there for us. There was one particular tree of which we were not to partake, a tree of knowledge. Knowledge and understanding and wisdom were forbidden to us in this story. We were to be kept ignorant. But we couldn’t help ourselves. We were starving for knowledge—created hungry, you might say. This was the origin of all our troubles.”

~ Carl Sagan, astronomer, planetary scientist, cosmologist, astrophysicist, astrobiologist, author, and science communicator.

Carl Sagan may have been a brilliant scientist but that brilliance did not translate into matters pertaining to God.

What Sagan wrongly described as “the tree of knowledge” is actually “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” God did not want His creation ignorant. He wanted His creation untouched by evil.

By misquoting an easily found verse in Genesis, Sagan jumps to a completely erroneous conclusion. I like to think Sagan did that out of ignorance and not deception, but either way, he’s way out of his depth when it comes to talking about God and the Bible. That’s often the case, though, when atheists try to discuss the Bible because they haven’t read it, aren’t interested in it and think they’re too smart for it.

Here’s another one from Carl Sagan:

“The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard, who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous.”

~ Carl Sagan

What’s ludicrous is Carl Sagan publicly speaking about God as though he had any idea what he’s talking about.

First, God the Father is a Spirit. There’s no oversized white male with a flowing beard. Mr. Sagan apparently didn’t know the difference between God and a painting of God.

Here’s what Jesus Christ said about God the Father:

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

(John 4:24)

Second, God doesn’t “tally” the fall of every sparrow. He’s aware of the fall of every sparrow because He’s omniscient and omnipresent but nowhere in the Holy Bible does it say God “tallies” the fall of every sparrow.

Here’s what the Bible actually says:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.”

(Matthew 10:29)

All that verse means, imo, is that God is aware of and cares about even the smallest of living things.

So Mr. Sagan gets two things wrong in one sentence. And the reason I think he did that is because he thought he was too smart for the Holy Bible, and, based on that mistaken belief, he made a fool of himself.

I saw a video clip in another club of Carl Sagan talking about God and I could tell how nervous he was by how often he brought a small cup of water (at least I’m guessing it’s water) to his mouth. The number of times he did that in such a short amount of time speaks imo of nervousness.

Carl should have just been honest and said, “I have no idea if God exists.”

Three gems on the theory of evolution (the first is a fuller quote than one of the quotes posted above.)

“Nowhere was Darwin able to point to one bona fide case of natural selection having actually generated evolutionary change in nature....Ultimately, the Darwinian theory of evolution is no more nor less than the great cosmogenic myth of the twentieth century.” Michael Denton, Evolution: A Theory in Crises (Bethesda, Maryland: Adler & Adler, 1986) pp. 62, 358.

“I believe that one day the Darwinian myth will be ranked the greatest deceit in the history of science.” Søren Løvtrup, Darwinism: The Refutation of a Myth (New York: Croom Helm, 1987), p. 422.

“Scientists who go about teaching that evolution is a fact of life are great con-men, and the story they are telling may be the greatest hoax ever. In explaining evolution, we do not have one iota of fact.” Dr. T. N. Tahmisian Evolution and the Emperor's New Clothes by N.J. Mitchell (United Kingdom: Roydon Publications, 1983), title page.

“To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree.”

“I humbly add I have spent more than 42 years as a defense trial lawyer appearing in many parts of the world and am still in active practice. I have been fortunate to secure a number of successes in jury trials and I say unequivocally the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.”
