![]() This is a club that is eager to host a range of different opinions. The aim is to hear and understand what other members think, and why they think so. To prevent these differences from becoming acrimonious, certain rules will be enforced:- 1. Posts shall be moderate in tone. This does not rule out irony or humour; but we draw the line at insults. 2. Responses shall be courteous, reasoned and proportionate. Above all, they shall be responses to what is posted. They shall not impute, misrepresent or extrapolate another's position except as explicitly acknowledged as a possible consequence. 3. Expect others to challenge your position. Be prepared to defend it, clarify it, explain it or modify it as the discussion unfolds. There is no shame in a change for the better! 4. What happens in other clubs is none of our concern. If any member wants to start a discussion on a topic raised elsewhere, then that issue should be done as a free-standing issue unconnected with discussions in another club. 5. Objections raised by respondents should be addressed courteously and promptly. Simply ignoring adverse comment is contrary to the intention of this club. We seek to discuss, not to hit-and-run. 6. A complaint against another member shall, in the first instance, be done by courteous private message to that member. If that fails to reach an agreed position, a Moderator shall be contacted privately (with copy to the other party), citing the post or posts giving rise to the complaint. The moderator will attempt to conciliate. If that fails, the moderator will contact two other moderators to discuss and agree on what should be done. |

![]() My guiding principle will be that a thread that has not had an addition in the last month is eligible, except that threads likely to have on-going relevance might be left active. I will post on each thread which I intend to close/lock, and allow a few days for objections to be registered. |

![]() I'll just leave them to gather dust on the bottom pages. |

![]() Honestly, you could probably just leave all of these. Zorro probably had the largest body of posts on GK. I would have to look, but suspect he rarely closed a thread. Of course, “first amendment club” was the original name of the sustainability club. And the first amendment takes a dim view of censorship. |
