![]() Yes, the US fully deserves all the damage and more. Ukraine doesn’t, however. Nor do Canada, Mexico, Panama, Denmark, or the other nations that will suffer from our suicidal and ignorant collapse. |

![]() I doubt he'll do that. Federal spending is about a quarter of the GDP, so if that is taken out it will look like the arse has fallen off the US economy. Since Trump only cares about appearances, he won't want that! But I wouldn't be surprised if any tariff income is added to GDP, since it is money spent in America by importers. <the better to cook the books and make his lies more credible.> It won't make his lies more credible. You have to look at the sociology involved here:- a) Trump's rednecks don't understand or even look at 'elitist' statistics, least of all GDP. What they look at is employment, wages and inflation, and even those are looked at anecdotally, not statistically. The only figures they will see are the paypacket, the mortgage, the weekly shop and the bills. b) Trump's mates, the oligarchs who are benefitting from his slash-and-burn of anything that doesn't help corporate profits, will be horrified. Lack of reliable statistics means less information, which means more uncertainty, which means greater risk when investing. If Trump starts to strangle reliable statistics, interest rate will rise and foreign sources of investment will keep their distance. That will cost profits as well as jobs. I think it much more likely (but still improbable!) that Trump will keep good statistics, but simply not publish them. But those who make decisions will know anyway. The result will be the same. |

![]() TACO FALLS! Yesterday the general tariffs were struck down as illegal. While Groper has appealed, it is doubtful the 3-0 federal trade court decision (two appointed by Republicans—one by Groper himself) will be reversed. |
