In an official post, HB condemned President Trump’s recent actions as a “backstabbing TV show,” praised Ukrainian President Zelenskyy for his restraint, and declared “No Fuel to Americans!” while urging other European suppliers to follow suit. This comes right after the contentious Trump-Zelenskyy meeting, where Vice President JD Vance accused Zelenskyy of leading “propaganda tours” to highlight Russian invasion destruction, provoking a heated exchange and creating a public spectacle. America First But that leaves wide open the real question. Exactly WHAT does it mean to 'put America first'? Is it in America's interests to allow a front-line ally to be left out to dry, and the resources plundered by an adversary? All for the sake of one temporary ego? Is it in America's interests to ensure that the entire Arab world and most of the Islamic world is being driven into at least an understanding with Iran, if not an actual entente? And paying for that yourself with aid to Israel many times greater than anything offered to Ukraine? What does America get in return, Oh Wise One Who Always Looks For An Advantageous Deal? Is it in America's interests to tell the entire world, of all colours and persuasions, that doing business with America means gambling with their whimsical tariff policies? Most smart businessmen would prefer to invest in other ventures that offer certainty. Yes, Donald; Put America First, PLEASE!!! Not in third place behind your spite and need to take revenge in first place, and your insatiable hunger to be the headline act every day in second place. America deserves better. |

Although Russian threats, especially those against U.S. election systems, were a top priority for the agency in the past, a source told Kirchgaessner that analysts were told not to follow or report on Russian threats. “Russia and China are our biggest adversaries,” the source told Kirchgaessner. “With all the cuts being made to different agencies, a lot of cybersecurity personnel have been fired. Our systems are not going to be protected and our adversaries know this.” “People are saying Russia is winning,” the source said. “Putin is on the inside now.” Another source noted that “There are dozens of discrete Russia state-sponsored hacker teams dedicated to either producing damage to US government, infrastructure and commercial interests or conducting information theft with a key goal of maintaining persistent access to computer systems.” “Russia is at least on par with China as the most significant cyber threat, the person added. Quote continues: Trump has made dismissing as a hoax what he calls “Russia, Russia, Russia” central to his political narrative. But Russian operatives did, in fact, work to elect him in 2016. A 2020 report from the Republican-dominated Senate Intelligence Committee confirmed that Putin ordered hacks of Democratic computer networks, and at two crucial moments WikiLeaks, which the Senate committee concluded was allied with the Russians, dumped illegally obtained emails that were intended to hurt the candidacy of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Trump openly called for Russia to hack Clinton’s emails. Russian operatives also flooded social media with disinformation, not necessarily explicitly endorsing Trump, but spreading lies about Clinton to depress Democratic turnout, or to rile up those on the right by falsely claiming that Democrats intended to ban the Pledge of Allegiance, for example. The goal of the propaganda was not simply to elect Trump. It was to pit the far ends of the political spectrum against the middle, tearing the nation apart. Fake accounts on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook drove wedges between Americans over issues of race, immigration, and gun rights. Craig Timberg and Tony Romm of the Washington Post reported in 2018 that Facebook officials told Congress that the Russian campaign reached 126 million people on Facebook and 20 million on Instagram. End quote. Disclaimer, I was party to a class action lawsuit against meta for allowing Cambridge Analytica granting access to its data for Russia’s propaganda campaign. In exchange for Zuckerberg’s donation Groper revoked the judgment against Meta, which had set aside hundreds of millions—money Meta now gets back (instead of me and the others harmed). Last (most telling) bit: Russia was bombarding voters with propaganda to divide Americans before that year’s election, as well. Operatives were not just posting fake stories and replying to posts, but were also using AI to manufacture fake videos and laundering Russian talking points through social media influencers. Just a month before, news had broken that Russia was funding Tenet Media, a company that hired right-wing personalities Tim Pool, Dave Rubin, Benny Johnson, Lauren Southern, Tayler Hansen, and Matt Christiansen, who repeated Russian talking points. Now back in office, Trump and MAGA loyalists say that efforts to stop disinformation undermine their right to free speech. Project 2025, the extremist blueprint for the second Trump administration, denied that Russia had interfered in the 2016 election—calling it “a Clinton campaign dirty trick”—and called for ending government efforts to stop disinformation with “utmost urgency.” “The federal government cannot be the arbiter of truth,” it said. On February 20, Steven Lee Myers, Julian E. Barnes, and Sheera Frenkel of the New York Times reported that the Trump administration is firing or reassigning officials at the FBI and CISA who had worked on protecting elections. That includes those trying to stop foreign propaganda and disinformation and those combating cyberattacks and attempts to disrupt voting systems. Independent journalist Marisa Kabas broke the story that two members of the “Department of Government Efficiency” are now installed at CISA: Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old known as “Big Balls,” and Kyle Schutt, a 38-year-old software engineer. Kim Zetter of Wired reported that since 2018, CISA has “helped state and local election offices around the country assess vulnerabilities in their networks and help secure them.” During the 2024 campaign, Trump said repeatedly that he would end the war in Ukraine. Shortly after the election, a newspaper reporter asked Nikolai Patrushev, who is close to Putin, if Trump’s election would mean “positive changes from Russia’s point of view.” Patrushev answered: “To achieve success in the elections, Donald Trump relied on certain forces to which he has corresponding obligations. And as a responsible person, he will be obliged to fulfill them.” |

That was understandable when Egypt was a catspaw for the Soviet Union, and Israel did what it was told, like obeying American pressure to sign the cease-fire in 1967. Those days are long past. The Soviet Union no longer exists, the Arab governments have accepted Israel's existence (but Israel still has not accepted Palestine's existence!), and America has a solid presence in the Middle East without needing Israel as an ally. So why doesn't Israel comply with American wishes? Why doesn't America cut billions of dollars of support annually? Of course, Israel as a sovereign nation has a right to make its own decisions on these matters, but doesn't America also have the sovereign right to turn off the subsidies? The answer is that America keeps making the same childish mistake. It believes its own propaganda. Politics in America is increasingly one of polarisation. That extends to foreign policy as well. Americans won't support anyone but angels, and anyone who is a demon must be implacably crushed. Trump and Trumpism follows that, but cubed. It is obvious in domestic politics, and Trump has extended it to international politics as well. He CAN'T stop supporting Israel, no matter what they do, because Israel are the 'good guys'. Not even the crimes being committed routinely in Gaza can persuade him otherwise. We are seeing the same mentality in the Russo-Ukraine war. Trump doesn't want to support Ukraine (let's not go into the reasons!), so he has to make them the devils. "You started this war!" he told Zelenskyy. So now, no matter what Russia does, he won't do anything serious to dissuade them. He will even run interference for Putin as Putin plays for more time and more exhaustion from Ukraine. That also means a distrust of anyone who DOES support Ukraine. Look how Trump is treating NATO allies. Although this binary approach is part of the American Myth, it is very highly developed in Trump. His own life-experience is that he can get whatever he wants, legally or otherwise, and has the stubbornness of a spoilt brat until he gets it. He genuinely believes he is entitled to have his own way, and anyone who oppose him is not just a personal opponent, but a 'nasty' and evil person. American Exceptionalism in action! An exceptional ability to believe their own myths, led by a man who believes his own myths. |
