<You don't need to hate migrants in order to want secure borders and lawful entry. To argue this is simply infantile.>

I'm not accusing you of hating migrants, nor am I arguing that the current situation should continue. So far we agree.

Now, what should be done about it? I refer to my two questions in my 22:05 post, or you can suggest some other approach. But I'm looking for solutions at this stage. We have already achieved problem identification.

There are many murders in the US. Any fool can see murder is legal!

Bob
There are many things that need to be done (imho). I have discussed all this before.

First of all, we should undo all of the things that Joe Biden did on Day One of his presidency. Restore the Trump actions that had the illegal problem, at least, somewhat under control.

Then, finish building the wall. Make it a high tech wall with sensors, cameras etc. This gives border patrol early warning of impending attempted crossings and they can respond quickly to the correct locations.

Review and change immigration laws such that we have a system that:

allows entry for people whose skills we need by industry or type of work, who have some sponsor either friend, family of employer, and passes a background check.
allows entry based on reasonable asylum needs, not economic desires.
allows reasonable direct family ties to enter with the long term immigrant.
Improves the entry system such that requests are handled "quickly" and fairly.
Rescinds "anchor baby" rules.
Eliminates Sanctuary cities
Creates an "immigration Court" that reviews individually DACA and all other current illegal entry people in the USA and decides whether they can stay with a path to citizenship or other long term means of staying here legally... or if they must be deported.

This is a quick, simple list. The list could be added to or amended I'm sure. And, of course, the devil is in the details of HOW to do all that. What would you do?

This is what Open Borders look like...
Border city of Yuma is on the brink of collapse under 'unprecedented' migrant surge

The border city of Yuma, Arizona, is at breaking point with the unprecedented flow of migrants leaving the community at the brink of collapse and hospitals and food banks overloaded.

Midnight in Yuma
Softaire posits a scare story about Yuma on the brink, back in January of 2023. Nothing changed for TWO MORE YEARS, except that the claim was obviously exposed as right wing nonsense and balderdash.

The government provides no services to illegal immigrants beyond basic public education [gasp!] of children [not adults] and perhaps basic emergency medical care—life threatening conditions only. No food, housing, clothing, transportation, college tuition, etc. None of the vapid inanity echoed on Fox propaganda ad nauseum.

I guess California may be extending some basic health care to immigrants too—the horror! How can righteous white America take pleasure in the suffering and misery of lesser “vermin” “poisoning the blood” of our nation if we treat people like human beings?

Softee likes to play the "open borders card": even though he apparently has little clue that one of his probable idols, Ronald Reagan, developed the Idea --- The phrase was coined around NAFTA and it had/has nothing to with free, open passage for illegal immigrants, drug cartels and criminals.
It's intent was to allow more open commerce among America, Mexico and Canada; and that's pretty much what it did until trump decided that tariffs worked better.

Softee's "open borders" is fake news that's been played well by trump and his cronies.

Softie is one of the more intelligent Trumpists around. He has the sense to KNOW that what he says is rubbish.

But if a lie suits his agenda better than the truth, then he'll spread the lie. That old saying "All's fair in love and war" applies here, and Softie sees politics as a form of war. Not a way of allowing people with different opinions and priorities and hopes to live together in harmony - NO, that's a 'wet liberal' dream! - but war against your neighbours.

Australia's anti-immigration push
We are currently seeing a few ads on television of AI faces painted with the Australian flag. That ask the deeply penetration question "Since when was being a patriot make you a racist?"

I think they have the question the wrong way around. They SHOULD be asking "Since when was being a racist make you a patriot?"

I've said in other posts that more than half of Australia's population has at least one parent born overseas. In my own Local Government Area (the City of Parramatta, part of Greater Sydney), the most common country of birth is India representing 30.9% of the population, outnumbering Australian born residents at 24.8%. The next most common are China 8.9%, Nepal 5.5%, Philippines 2.5% and Iran 1.3%. However, only 6.8% identify their ancestry as Australian; the other common self-identified ancestries were Indian 27.3%, Chinese 15.3%, English 8.5% and Nepali 5.5%. About one quarter (24.4%) of people spoke English at home.

Meanwhile one of our more 'colourful' Members of Parliament, Bob Katter, was speaking outside Queensland Parliament with state members of the Katter's Australian Party about his intention to attend a March For Australia event this weekend.

{Mr Katter said only migrants from places with democracy, rule of law, Christianity or a similar religion, industrial awards and egalitarian traditions should be welcome in Australia.

"If they don't tick the boxes, they don't come here," he said.

Mr Katter claimed he had not seen a migrant in his community for 20 years and he would only welcome migrants to his community depending on "where they are coming from".

Channel Nine journalist Josh Bavas began to ask Mr Katter a question about his Lebanese heritage before he was cut off.

"Don't say that! Because that irritates me, and I've punched blokes in the mouth for saying that. Don't you say that!}

Racism is so often linked to intimidation, but that's what happens when someone can't abide the truth. Never mind what country these people think they're in; a better question would be to ask what planet they are from.
