The U.S. provided approximately US$70 billion in international aid—not including most military aid—in 2023, according to Pew Research Center, representing about 1 percent of the federal budget. Seen most obviously in the treatment of slaves, but it was said in the 1950's that the domestic slaves in the South were better fed, housed, clothed and treated than the 'free' labourer in Pennsylvania. Dickensian Capitalism was moderated slightly since then, but not by much. For example, miners in Australia work hard, but earn BIG money; not so in the Appalachians. Security of employment is a dream for many, not a reality, and if they are 'let go' then most walk away with nothing like the severance pay any Australian or European in similar circumstances would collect. In sort, most of Trump's base have been abused most of their lives, or at best have lived under constant threat of it. So it's good to see someone doing that the rich and powerful on their behalf. Vicarious revenge, if you want to all it that. If Trump says "The Europeans have been screwing us!", the Trump base believes it because their lived experience is that EVERYONE has been screwing them. This is why I have said that the Democrats must carry some of the blame. The have taken their eye off the conditions of the working class, and instead have adopted the language and paradigms of the elite. Their commitment to the poor is still there, for sure, but they way they 'sell' it is to talk about MINORITY rights and boutique issues. They need to get back to broad-based equality and opportunity, with minority rights being a part of that broader programme instead of its figurehead. So you have misunderstood the situation, Paul. the MAGA base is NOT saying “ah, he is a nasty pedophile, but God bless him, he is serving the interests of America’s billionaires and protecting our beloved wealthy elite from the consequences of international child sex rings, MAGA.” They are saying "He is kicking the crap out of the System that has held us down while we were gang-raped all our lives. They might not admit it, but they know! But they don't care about the niceties about Constitutionality or Rule of Law or Due Process, because all those things are how the System justifies itself as it oppresses the bottom stratum.
