 LSI don't understand why your say I am scared to cross the border. I lived in Mexico for a time and went to school at the University of the America's at Toluca. I have been through Central America and Mexico. Of course, I did it legally with a passport. America seems to be the only country that allows illegal immigration besides the EU. What's your point? "Conservatives don’t completely oppose immigration. They, like Trump, just wonder why we have to accept immigrants from s*hole countries like those in Africa, instead of white some and delight some nations like Norway?" This makes NO sense. But, I could refresh all the ideas for NOT allowing ILLEGAL immigration if you like. Nobody opposes LEGAL immigration. But our immigration laws, policies, and procedures should be updated and revised. Do you understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration? |

Softaire All others should be deported with immediate effect. This is not enough! Much needs to be done to prevent further illegal immigration, and this is the most difficult task. Walls will not work! Harsh deportation for all those wo have not tried to enter legally and who are not justifiably refugees might also help. Do we agree? If we do, you should start pressuring your Congress and Senate favourites to work on this plan, and it should be done reps and dems TOGETHER!! |

Stalh To expand on your comments, we must first reduce the incentive for illegal immigration. I have discussed those ideas before. If we eliminated any incentive to make that dangerous, expensive trip here illegally we might not need a wall. I have also talked about immigration reform and what should be dome there. There is much there to be done. |

Softaire Yes, that would of course be optimal, but I am afraid it is impossible considering the vast opposrtunities an immigrant from these countries will have in USA. Of course, if there were strict laws (AND practise) of immediate deportation of any illegal person it would help, and that was precisely what I proposed. Potential immigrants should be taught - if not otherwise, then the hard way - that they should apply for immigrant status in a legal fasjion. HOWEVER, this also requires changes and making such application procedures easier and more accessible! They should of course be in the country of origin, not in USA! |

Open Border Ok, so you admit the US border was not open back then, but you insist it is open now. Yet you won’t accept the challenge—cross the border without ID. THAT is what an open border is, not one like North Korea’s where you can keep your children if you sneak across without stepping on a land mine or catching the eye of a trigger happy guard. |

To be fair Softaire is just pushing the right wing dogma but when you look at those behind that dogma you see their real intent and anti-immigrant bias. Short of a police state and North Korea like border people will try and cross, and the “incentives” are the same as our ancestors—escaping tyranny, persecution, crime, poverty etc. and wanting a better life for children, despite exploitation and dangers in the way. It’s not about living off crime, welfare and food stamps for the rest or their lives. Our immigration system is a mess so the “legal” process isn’t working. That why it’s ridiculous to demand we have “secure” borders to their unrealistic standards before fixing the system or legalizing those settled here while millions wait for decades—that is just hostage taking and a pretext. Sanctuary cities to protect innocent victims of this nonsense are only necessary because conservatives take hostages. Legalize those here and fix immigration first which is easy while we modernize border security because that isn’t simple. Otherwise we know they are not really serious and just want little to no immigration from the “wrong” places. |

I'll delete my previous post and now will say what I think about this post by LS: I find the post by LS to be juvenile, embarrassing, and insulting. As a Marine Corp infantry grunt who fought for the USA in Vietnam and saw comrades die or be horribly wounded, he is one who might get a grenade rolled under his cot some night or shot by the "enemy" out in the bush for those comments. I find the implication of what he says to be unpatriotic, un-American, and unfounded. Good news for USA! HS McCarthy will seal and secure US border. Stal, don't you realize that a lot of criminals, drugs and terrorists are flooding our nation thru open border. Fentanyl poisoning can kill millions of Americans in the long run. Terrorists can bring parts of a nuclear bomb and reassemble it after they get into US.
