The Colle-Zukertort Opening System
Shamash,a good past member of this club had brought up the subject of the Zukertort System in another club chat(The Club for Chess openings).I thought it might also be a good idea to bring to light this system in this club as well.I do not have the book...Grigory Bogdanovich's "Zukertort System."I do have, however,Susan Polgars DVD video on the Zuker. Its about 2 hours long and very extensively analyzes the Zuker as a very sound and dynamic opening which gives white the option of attacking the center or King side of black. Its advantage is in the fact that is does not require deep analysis of many variations 15-20 moves deep. This makes the Zuker an ideal opening for the lower rated and intermediate players to study.

This is shamash's comments in the other club:

"1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. e3 (Zukertort System)
With Artur Yusupov's recommendation, just picked up Grigory Bogdanovich's "Zukertort System."

(Looking beyond the opening, the book's a useful exploration of tactical motifs in the middlegame.)

As for the opening moves, kind of hate to block in my queen's bishop so early with e3, though.

Anyone else playing the Zukertort System?" UNQUOTE.

I cannot, unfortunately post the 2 hour video in this club, but I have found a few good short excerpts from GM Susan Polgars video on youtube that you may find interesting:

As to the blocked in Bishop with 3.e3 as shamash eluded to that he does not like, the blockage is only temporary.A good example of this is in the video link above with the 1923 game between Maroczy-Blake.

With the Colle system there are basically 2 versions....The Colle-Koltanowski system and the Colle-Zukertort system. The Zuker has indeed, been used as a MORE successful weapon with both strong players and players from 1400 and above in rating as compared to the Koltanowski.

Again, due to the fact that this Colle system does not require enormous amounts of deep line study(like some of the Sicilians or Ruys),I would strongly suggest it become one of your opening repertoires as a bright beginner or intermediate player.I have had great personal success with the Zuker and may post some of my USCF games I played a number of years ago.But I have no GK games employing the Zuker for now.
