About refraining from Conditional moves and stealthI see a few from time to time that do not want conditional moves or they will not play a game,as they are quoted in their profile.Yet,they cannot stop it from move #3 onward. If necessary,I will tell them no conditional move will I use, then from move #3 I will intentionally plug in 30 conditional moves....to teach them a lesson.Do I care if they never play me again? Ha,ha...no.Plenty of other fish in the GK sea!If you do not want to use conditional moves...fine! But do not deny the right for your opponent to use them in YOUR game! Then I see other players tell you in their profile that they refuse to play anyone who hides their online status.Yet,they also cannot stop playing that player,if I they see that my online status is back on,but then I turn it off again.See,I get around those "ridiculous ideas" others have. Now...lets get down to the "smell the coffee"logic of mine! 1. Conditional moves have been around for centuries!Whether it be the slave runners in parts of old Europe or Egypt that ran moves across hundreds of miles between two opponents or the more recent Postal Chess or the internet chess being played online for decades. Its part of the game, period! It can speed up the game and saves time,it gets you "out of book" faster which is simply repetitive in game after game like a Ruy Lopez opening. Those who have a "problem"with conditional moves, more than likely have some kind of "unfound fear"of them or think that their opponent is "putting something over"on them! All ridiculous ways of thinking!!You still move however you want and take as much time as you want with any chess move all the way down to your time limit of 2,3 or longer time controls per move!If you have an "insecurity problem",because you think that will offend your opponent by not responding quickly to his conditional move(s)....get over it or seek professional help. 2.Now on to hiding an online status! What about it?So what? What business it that of YOURS to have to know if your opponent is online or not???None! Is that going to change anything? No.Will you be forced to move differently time wise? No.Must you understand the reasons why someone hides their online status?No...and if you think otherwise, seek medical help.Ahhhh...so are you being simply "nosy"like a nosy neighbor that need to know if your neighbor is home or not?Yes...you should mind your own business and do not be concerned about your oppononent!Maybe he likes his privacy,or does not like that green light?Whateven the reason, respect his GK rights using both conditional moves as well as hiding an online status!!!!If you do not accept that, then may I suggest you leave GK permanently, since you are not a real CC player that RESPECTS traditional ways on GK and other chess sites since the internet was invented!!! Why do I write like this?Out of disrespect to those who look down on conditional moves and stealth? No,just bringing and enlightening some GK players into "reality",giving them a mild kick in the butt and making them(or trying to)have them...."Wake Up and Smell the Coffee"!!! Or the smell of tea, whichever you prefer!!!I shake my head no and smile when I see things written in players profiles...dictating strict conditions about which opponents they will only play and base thier ideals on balsa wood weak foundations of thought! And are those weak and baseless thoughts only confined to a few players south of 1400 in rating? No.I do not care if your rating is 3400...get over it. |

Now,opening a bottle of Tomasello Cranberry Wine,a rare treat that only comes to St Barts by my request.I order it by the crate from the USA with its origins in NJ.Very inexpensive...about 11 dollars per bottle. Its perfect to complement ham or turkey meals and my guests consume it like oxygen.I do not always need some expensive 1989 Bollinger Grande Annee. But that is also in my wine cellar for New Years Eve. Oh..what was that about conditional moves and stealth?Hmmmm.I already have forgotten! But you better get your coffee, instead of wine and reread my first post! |

I once played a 1,900+ guy who did this, a very nice guy, but he was in the wrong, especially as we were using Fischer Incremental and I needed to replenish my time bank. As for withholding your online status, I think you’re bang on. It’s none of your opponent’s business whether you’re online or not, that information is usually generously volunteered, but there’s no right to know. |

On my level, there usually is no issues. But I do see it all the time elsewhere! |

That is ultra fine with me and I accept it.But I continue to send him conditional moves. In a way,I like that, because I know, most of the time the next 3 or 4 moves he will make,or more if it is in the opening. So,after plugging in my conditional moves,I know that I can take a "break"and come back two or three days later and check back with the game. So,while he is pondering the next 3 moves..I will go out and cook up a good steak with trimmings.I never ask my opponents to use conditional moves or refrain from using them. But those who have a problem with conditional moves with their opponents using them...well,that is a different story! |
