A note on checking blitz rating with your opponents and moreThe best ones offered ONLY blitz, not any other form of CC games like the traditional GK games with long time control limits. So,in the case of sites like Instantchess and others, you could instantly see your opponents blitz rating above the chess board that popped up in front of you.The best blitz sites offered the option of selecting a rating parameter range "selective search"for ONLY those opponents online between the two ratings you selected. For example, you could select that you only wanted to play opponents between,say...1400-1600.For me,it was: 2200-2600.There ALSO was another option to select(if you wanted)...playing ONLY blitz players from specific countries!Yes!! Then there was options to actually OBSERVE an online blitz game between two players going on,like you were a third party! But the players had the option to disallow that if they wanted. Other options permitted you to choose ONLY black and white sides like you can do in your regular GK games. Not so in GK chess...at least not yet. I do not expect GK to get into the Dom Pérignon versions of blitz chess, since it has been designed for mainly the long time control CC chess. And they would probably have to invest millions more, plus highly upgraded computer systems to handle all the bells and whistles of advanced blitz chess....not to mention an influx of thousands of blitz players that would transcend on GK like flys to honey.Maybe...but as a realist,I doubt it. As to checking someone's blitz rating: What's definitely WRONG with the GK blitz is the fact that when an opponent appears on the board that Pop's up...it shows his/her regular GK rating,NOT their present blitz rating. This is incorrect because a players blitz rating can VASTLY DIFFER from their long GK CC games!!! Sometimes by hundreds of rating points!!!So,in effect, you are NOT getting the accurate picture of their TRUE blitz rating which could be strong or weak, even if their long game has a very high rating! Some 2200 rated players for example, may indeed have a blitz rating of only 1800,even after 200 games of blitz are played, perhaps more. So,until that changes with the "real"blitz rating of an opponent showing up in the board that pops up,you need to do a quick check of their blitz rating BEFORE the game commences! And even AFTER the game commences on move #1 if you opponent is white and immediately moves! How do you do that?.... When the blitz board pops up after the computer is searching,do this: 1.Very quickly click on the players name which will be highlighted and that will take you instantly to their profile.A separate window will also appear for the profile of your opponent. 2.Train you eyes to instantly spot his blitz rating which will be in his profile near the top. 3. Click off that window the usual way you do it.The blitz board will still be there. 4.The game can commence or not commence if you decide or they decide to not play one another based upon the blitz rating differences. You can do that safely by either making no moves,1 move or 2 moves MAX.I suggest NO moves,if you do not like what his/her blitz rating is.Even if they are the white and have moved WHILE you are doing the checking of their rating, or if you are the white and they are waiting for you...it does not matter, the game will commence in about 3 or 4 seconds, that is if..... 5.You practice and train on doing this VERY QUICKLY!It now takes me no more than 3 seconds to do it!Sometimes I even pull the players profile down like a shade very quickly to the bottom of my screen and click it off during the game after a few moves. So,all of this because you want to know who you are playing against in rating strength! After a while or later on that same evening, checking their rating is unnecessary if you can remember what it was,say an hour ago and you just played him before. |

P.S.That is tiny. So,while you wait, you better make a sandwich for yourself and brew up some coffee! I am one of those impatient blitz players that demand action! No wonder I have quit playing blitz for now.I am tired of falling asleep waiting for a game! |
