Why do I stress the 1980's for Pop music more than other decades?
Well,I could write a whole book on that subject, since most of my recording career was during the 1980's.But it goes MUCH deeper than that!Let me just summarize a few facts.

So...do you recognize a Queen of classic Pop?Lets begin here:

www.youtube.com 1985 Maria Magdalena. Her very first megahit that placed #1 on the hit music charts in 21 countries and in the top 10 in five more countries. Many more "Synth-Pop"hits tunes were soon to follow with Sandra...album after album, single after single! That night on both MTV and Top Pop TV,broadcast out of Europe and the USA in 1985,a brand new Pop Super Queen had arisen. The rest is history.

By 1980,much of the Disco Mania craze was over,or rapidly fading away.Rock music was still strong, but many of the same Disco fans were still seeking the glitz and glamor of Disco music...its fancy nightclubs, raised dance floors, laser lights, martini bars and more.Rock was great, but that did not offer the same "ambience"that the Disco era had enveloped both in the USA and Europe. That was a different style of music and the old "drugs, sex and Rock and Roll music" was a far cry from Disco music and its aura.Music fans were still seeking...."something different".The DJ's were rarely playing Disco music anymore and playing early Pop music...leftovers from the late 1970's and early 1980's.That had to suffice,BUT something was still needed. But what?

Starting in and around 1984,the electronic Keyboards went through a massive change in the electronics, chips, special sound effects and "synthesis sounds".A new style of music began to emerge and so did the cool sound effects and rhythms, including electronic drums played by a drummer or built into many electronic Keyboards.

A new style of Pop began to emerge called: Synth-Pop!While there were many other styles
of Pop music,Synth-Pop began to take shape almost overnight throughout Europe and the
USA.It was,at first more pronounced in Europe, since the USA was still on the fence with mainly Rock music and Country music in regards to top popularity.Bands in Europe like Alphaville were becoming top names...and their music was not Rock, but Synth-Pop style. That style was beginning to get red hot, combined with other Pop styles.

Between 1985-1992 Pop began to practically dominate the world!!!!!!
Rock was beginning to take second chair!!!!
The beats and rhythms of both Pop and Synth-Pop music RULED THE DANCE FLOORS!!!!
While Rock music concentrated a bit more on instrumentation with its screaming lead guitars and more....Pop music began to concentrate more on vocals and less on massive instrumentation. The love stories of Pop many times varied greatly to the old Rock themes of drugs, sex, politics, war and more.

The old Disco crowds were ecstatic! They could go out between 9pm and 2am on a Friday and Saturday night and dance to the music of Madonna,Michael Jackson,Tina Turner,Whitney Houston,Pat Benatar,Prince,Nena,Sabrina,Alphaville,France Gall,Sandra Lauer and many more up and coming artists! Some Rock music was "slipped in"to the Pop clubs, but it was still Pop music overall that ruled those dance floors.Again...with the raised dance floors, laser lights and fancy chic bars in club after club from NYC to Ft Lauderdale Fl on the east coast of the USA or throughout most of continental Europe, starting around 1985!

So,the 1980's became...."The dawn of the supergiant's" in Pop music!!
Many of those names,I just mentioned above! But there were many more like...Cyndi Lauper!!
Many of the top legends in Pop music today had emerged mainly in the 1980's even though Pop music has first arrived in the 1950's.Synth-Pop music was the top style of Pop,especially in Europe! And guess who was,for the most part, the top female Synth-Pop artist in Europe during the 1980's?:

Sandra Lauer!!!!Yes!!Now,you know why, among many other reasons I highlight her in my profile!!

In reality, the years....1985-1992 were the very TOP years for Pop music, more than any other
decade in the history of Pop music! So,it was a period of time right after Disco music faded away in popularity but BEFORE Progressive Rock music appeared more above ground and mainstream
starting in and around 1993 with bands like the Cranberries and others.

It has been written in many reports that you can find online, that about 70% of the Pop and Rock fans today,in 2023,still prefer to listen to the classics of yesteryear(even from decades ago)compared to the newest Pop and Rock music of today!!Of course, that % changes depending upon the country, city and age of the listener. But even if it was closer to 50%,that
is still a huge number! Why is that?Well,I won't get into all of that,it would take another 3 pages to tell you!Quality, style, aura, more natural talent, less sound alike tunes produced by computerin 2023 and about a hundred other things make the 1980's the top choice of the "true connoisseur"or purist of Pop music!

And Sandra Lauer was the QUEEN OF POP in more countries than you can fathom between 1985-1992 as many sources will confirm! Her Wiki will tell you much, but not everything!

So....two thumbs up for the 1980's Pop classics!!!
Not everyone can appreciate and savor a fine vintage wine like the 1980's Pop music provided!
Even the belated Tina Turner's top fame came in mainly the 1980's...but she was Rock, not Pop.
But we cannot forget her!

As to Sandra, visit my profile and continue on with a spectacular journey with her into the 1980's and 1990's!Many of her tunes stunned the world!!

www.youtube.com 1985 You And I.A voice as high in octave as the Bee Gees back in the day.

and Now.....Alphaville with more quality Synth-Pop music!Prepare!:

www.youtube.com 1984 Big In Japan

Notice, that was in 1984 and WITH the new electronic Keyboards.
Synth-Pop had arrived!!!!Starting in Europe.

Sandra continued that trend starting in 1985,but with a different style.

In reality, many Pop artists flocked to Japan back in the day!You didn't know that?
Their hit tunes were like a new God to the young Japanese teens!Japan was undergoing
a new revolution in music and wanted to "catch up"with Europe and the USA!!!!!!!!!!
So,the tunes of Alphaville,Sandra Lauer and more artists were begged for in Japan!!!!!

Hey...your learning!!!

And if you do not know....
both Sandra Lauer and Alphaville were from Germany.
Sandra made another version that same year with this
Alphaville tune, but toned it down and sang it in German!!!
Something very rare, since only one other tune from her
vast music video collection was also sang in her native
tongue of German.Sandra was an international Pop
Superstar,so she decided to learn the English language
to bring her great Pop tunes to the world. But not in
the tune below!!

Here is the same tune by Sandra, but sang in a completely
different format! You may find this interesting, especially
with a high pitched female voice!:

www.youtube.com 1984 Japan ist Weit.

Very symbolic tune, representing initial record failure
to ultra fame only one year later in 1985.
Japan ist Weit only sold 125 copies! Now a very rare
and sought after collectors single. It actually was her first
attempt at entering the Pop scene and a year before her
ultra fame commenced by 1985.

Interesting enough, while Alphaville had "Big In Japan" and many other tunes... and even though
Sandra copied their original tune(with permission from them)and had next to zero fame for it,it was Sandra that went on to become a world-class Queen, not only eclipsing Alphaville in world fame and popularity, but many bands and soloists of Pop in both Europe and the USA!!
Starting to see the BIG picture?
